If you’re in Rome and fancy doing something slightly more productive than simply eating pizza (which, to be fair, is already a perfectly respectable activity), the pizza cooking class at Osteria Pasquino is an excellent choice. Our instructor, Emanuel, was brilliant—patient, funny, and impressively tolerant of a room full of amateurs attempting to manhandle dough like seasoned Italian nonnas. He explained everything clearly, kept the pace lively, and somehow managed to make us feel as though we might actually know what we’re doing. The class itself was great fun, especially with children. There’s something universally satisfying about throwing flour around, stretching dough, and then immediately eating the results. Even the kids were completely engaged—which, as any parent knows, is nothing short of a minor miracle. By the end, we had produced pizzas that were surprisingly respectable (at least in our opinion), and more importantly we had a thoroughly enjoyable time doing it. Highly recommended if you’re travelling with kids, enjoy good food, or simply want to pretend—if only briefly—that you’re a Roman pizzaiolo rather than a tourist who usually orders takeaway.
