We started our journey to Pompei from Sorrento. This involves a long train journey. On arrival at Pompei, you are greeted with large crowds all queuing to get in. The first entry point was not our meeting point. After another 5 minute walk, we eventually found the meeting point. We waited amongst the very large crowds. We couldn't see our guide amongst the hundreds of other guides. Thankfully, he rang me and found us. This was not the exact meeting point given. Once inside Pompei, be prepared for large crowds, uneven walking, extreme heat and no shade. Wear comfortable shoes with grip. Take water with you. There are water refill points around Pompei. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and took us around to see the highlights. You will need more than a few hours to see everything. After a whistle stop tour of Pompei, we had a half hour break before walking back to the train station. It is a long train journey to Herculaneum. The train was running late and involved long delays. On arrival at Herculaneum Station, there is a very long walk to the site. This site is a lot smaller to walk around and not as crowded. We did feel rushed around as we arrived late and as we had a very long train journey to Sorrento. Overall, it was an excellent day with a very knowledgeable guide. Well organised and run. Be prepared for a very long, busy full on day. You need to be fairly fit and good on your feet. I would highly recommend this tour as a taster. You will need to go back and see the rest. Especially the museums.

Great tour. For some reason I think we confused this tour with another that traveled by train. This tour was done completely by bus. Liliana did a great job, and we learned a lot versus if we had done this on our own. The only issue we had was that the AC was very loud on the bus. We were stuck sitting in the back, so it was very hard to hear the commentary during the ride. Regardless, we still enjoyed the sites very much.

This was the tour of a lifetime. I could have spent days in both Herculaneum and Pompeii but this tour hit all the highlights while Lily did an amazing job explaining the history. Without Lily, my family wouldn't have learned the details of what we saw told by such an experienced guide. I definitely plan on going back to spend more time to explore more areas, but this was a great way to see these cities for the first time.

Our archeologist guide (Benedicto) was very knowledgable and personable. I agreed with him that Herculaneum was more interesting, less crowded and more enjoyable than Pompeii. It was really a wow and I will definitely go back. Pompeii was a bit chaotic crowd-wise and the public bathrooms were woefully inadequate for the number of people, so the long hot wait for them was a huge drag after a long train ride. That and the crowds dampened my opinion of the Pompeii tour. (Our guide did a great job of navigating us through!) Other thing to consider is the amount of walking for this excursion. There is a LOT -both in the ruins and getting from Pompeii to Herculaneum. If you go in summer, bring water. Our tour guide recommended visits during cooler months and noted that 4pm was the best time to go to Pompeii. Despite the crowds, these ruins are amazing and I would highly recommend this tour.
