This is a difficult review to write as it is really two reviews in one… Our guide (Leo) in Pompeii was absolutely fabulous!!! He did an expert job of keeping us away from the crowds when possible, and was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Pompeii was mind-blowing and doing it as part of a small group is definitely the way to go! Leo and Pompeii are definitely 5 stars! However, the guide (Anastasia) for the balance of the tour was not good. She was okay at reciting information, but anything “off script” seemed to be a challenge for her, and she was not clear with instructions and information. For example, when we arrived at Pompeii, she told us we could leave things on the bus as we were coming back to it, and took us to a shop. When we exited the shop, we had a scare as we couldn’t locate her and realized that she did not tell us where and when to meet, and the crowds were growing (she did materialize outside of the shop). When we realized we were going straight into Pompeii from the shopping, we wanted to go back to the bus to get our hats and water, only for her to tell us that the bus wasn’t there any more and would be back to pick us up later. My husband then rushed to buy a VERY overpriced hat before entering Pompeii, as my friend’s husband bought the four of us in our party all bottled water. After Pompeii, we went for lunch, which was quite good (thank you!). However, when we were getting off the bus, we asked if the bus was staying at the restaurant, and her reply “yes, of course”. We tried to explain to her why we were asking since the bus left us at Pompeii with needed items still on the bus, and she didn’t understand. When lunch was over, she came into the restaurant and said: “come, we leave.” When we got to Mt. Vesuvius, she gave us our tickets and pointed to the entrance, telling us what time to be back by. Some additional information would have been extremely helpful, such as: the hike is moderately challenging and normally takes approximately 30 minutes; you will hit two platforms on the way up selling souvenirs and drinks before you hit the summit where there are more kiosks selling souvenirs and drinks; etc. (FYI, the views along on the way and at the top are stunning and worth the hike!) On the way back to port, our driver seemed to be in a hurry and his driving did alarm us. We cannot remember not tipping on a tour before, and we did tip Leo, but not Anastasia nor our driver as we didn’t think they deserved it and what we probably would have tipped was spent on the expensive hat my husband needed to buy at Pompeii to prevent sunstroke and burning due to the poor communication resulting in us leaving our hats (and water) on the bus. This part of the tour was only 2 stars; hence the overall rating of 3 stars.

My husband and I loved this tour. It was expertly organized by our Guide Paola, with the assistance of Alfredo the driver who navigated many hairpin turns up Mount Vesuvius. First we toured Pompeii and had a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide just for the archaeological site. Then lunch was at a lovely restaurant near the top of Mount Vesuvius with amazing views over the bay of Naples. We ended the day with the very steep hike up Mount Vesuvius- wear good sneakers or hiking boots. The trek is tough but well worth it for the views, and you can enjoy limoncello or other drinks at the top. It was a great day, thank you Paola!!!

My guide Paola was friendly, cheerful and effervescent (despite the scorching heat and humidity)! She kept to a tight schedule and made sure we were all taken care of.

We had a lot of fun today. It included the tour of Pompeii, lunch with a pretty view, and a walk up Mt. Vesuvius. The walk up the mountain could be challenging for some. Two from our group could not make it up the top. It is about a 30 minute walk uphill. The terrain is loose gravel / dirt, so if you have trouble getting around, i would book a tour that only has Pompeii. Josephina was our guide and Daniello was our driver and did GREAT!

Francisco and Anastasia were excellent! They were very informative, amicable, and made sure that we were having a great experience on our tour. We enjoyed touring the Pompeii site, a delicious lunch on our way to Mount Vesuvius and plenty of time to hike the mountain.

Our guide Anastasia and driver were great! They were friendly and informative. The small group tour was perfect for our family because it was easy to follow along in a group of 11 people. Just the right amount of time spent in Pompeii — our Pompeii guide (I forgot her name) was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and also provided a lot of fun little details about life in Pompeii. We went with our two boys (ages 6 and 9) and they were able to do this tour with minimal complaints. Both boys enjoyed learning about Pompeii and seeing Mt. Vesuvius. All of us also went to the very top of Mt Vesuvius (approximately 30 min steep incline) — it was a hard walk up but we were able to do it. I think we were able to have an enjoyable time in Pompeii because this small group tour really made it easy for our family. Highly recommend this tour!

Overall a good tour. Transportation was convenient with a meeting place very close to our lodging. Lunch was very nice and we very much enjoyed both Pompeii and the hike at Mount Vesuvius. Four stars instead of five because we spent too much time inside in the museum when it was a beautiful day with so much to see outside. We would have preferred more time to walk around Pompeii instead of the time inside the museum.
