Wanting to learn more ahout Australia’s convict history, I joined this tour, and I came away fully satisfied and more informed. The tour's highlight is the UNESCO World Heritage Site designated Port Arthur Penitentiary and various buildings within the compound, which visitors can explore at their own pace. Site guides provide interesting commentaries on certain buildings. The modern visitor centre has excellent displays and interactive exhibits. Our wonderful Gray Line tour bus driver-guide, PHIL, did an excellent job, providing commentaries with lots of historic and informative detail, in a personable and humorous manner. The tour also included a short boat cruise to get a view of the waters where the convicts in the 1800's were shipped in, and there's also an optional photo opportunity of a cave-blowhole at the nearby Tasmanian National Park. Overall, this was a most enjoyable Australian penal colony tour and I highly recommend it.
