Postojna Cave
Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).

Amazing experience at both the castle and cave. Castle is even more impressive in person with lots on exhibit and overall grandeur. Cave has an amazing variety of formations with many great photo ops. Highly recommended!

Truly an experience not to be missed. Dejan picked us up in Trieste and drove us into Slovenia, first to Predjama Castle and then to Postonja Cave. Postonja Cave in particular was astonishing; even if you don't think you're interested in caves, you should see it. Dejan was also delightful, providing anecdotes about the history of the region. The beginning of November was a good time to visit, as neither site was overwhelmed with visitors.

The best exploration tour we had in 16 days of traveling the Mediterranean! Castles, caverns, and guide! We were 4 older adults traveling from Trieste. The castle is so much more than castle - it is also built into a cave and hillside. Stunning and historical. The cavern is beyond compare. Immense, gorgeous, the most incredible stalactites and stalagmites. Very well run with a train inside the cavern to go down and up and about a 1.5 mile walk inside. Beautiful in every way. Our guide was knowledgable about all of the area around us, pleasant, well spoken, intelligent, and excellent in every way. We could not have enjoyed it all more!

Absolutely great adventure. So many different structures to look at . This is a fairly aggressive walk so make sure you have comfortable shoes and a light jacket. It’s chilly in the cave (55 F).

They take you to the places and buy you the ticket, it is something that if you have a car you could do on your own, anyway, they are very friendly people!

The cave network is immense and we get to see only a fraction of it, but what we do see in an overwhelming display of massive structures. There are other caves, but this is truly spectacular and truly worth a visit.
