What To Expect

Skansin Fortress

Skansin, located in the heart of Tórshavn, is a historic fortress offering stunning views of the harbor and the surrounding landscape. Built in the late 16th century to defend the Faroe Islands from pirates, it later played a role in World War II as a British military base. Today, visitors can explore its well-preserved cannons, walls, and lighthouse while taking in the rich history and picturesque scenery.

Tinganes

Tinganes, the historic center of Tórshavn, is one of the world’s oldest parliamentary meeting places, dating back over 1,000 years. Today, it remains the seat of the Faroese government, blending ancient tradition with modern politics.

We really enjoyed our tour with Marita! She was very knowledgeable, welcomed questions of all sorts and has some great recommendations. We enjoyed getting a history of Tórshavn and the broader Faroe Islands. We would recommend a tour with Marita!

We didn't realise it was a public holiday on the day of our tour. There was no public transport to take us to the meeting point. We arrived late and furthermore, the weather was unfavourable. But we ended up in an amazing cafe with Birita, our guide, and spent the rest of the tour chinwagging over a good breakfast and had our own unique 'tour' instead. :)
