Diamond Beach
Our First destination would be the ultimate Diamond Beach, also known as Breiðamerkursandur or Crystal Beach, which is a stunning black sand beach located on the southeastern coast of Iceland, adjacent to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. The Beach is a natural feature that was formed by the melting and sculpting of icebergs as they washed ashore. Nonetheless, the beach has become a popular tourist destination and is now equipped with a parking lot and an observation platform. However, Visitors can walk along the beach and admire the ice formations. During the winter months, the beach is especially magical, as the ice formations are often covered with snow, and the Northern Lights can be seen overhead.
Vatnajokull National Park
Located in southeast Iceland, Vatnajokull National Park is a protected region. It was founded in 2008 and encompasses around 14,141 square kilometers, making it Europe's largest national park. The highest point in the park is Hvannadalshnjkur, the highest peak in Iceland at 2110 meters / 6922 feet. When the weather is clear, it is visible from Skaftafell and Kirkjubaejarklaustur, which are located to the south of the Vatnajokull ice cap. The park offers a range of activities for visitors, including hiking, ice climbing, glacier walks, and wildlife watching.

Ali picked us up right outside our AirBnB slightly before 0700. He was a terrific driver and very hospitable and gave us good tips about the trip and ideas for other aspects of Iceland. We got to Jokulsarlon around 1200 and got to see the glacier lagoon and then Diamond Beach. Incredible views and very happy to see the crystal like ice on the black sand in the sunrise sunlight in winter. Then we managed to arrive at Reynisfjara at sunset which was in our to do list. The Hálsanefshellir was quite a sight though many visitors were crawling over the rocks. We also ran along the black sand toward Dyrhólaey and got some nice sunset photos of the rock formations. Then we were driven back to our airBnB in Reykjavik around 1900. We had a fantastic time seeing some beautiful parts of Iceland. Ali made the experience great and he’s an excellent driver. Highly recommend this experience.

Our tour guide was Sam, and he did a fantastic job ensuring that we saw as much as possible despite the limited sunlight in Iceland in January. Sam reached out the night before to introduce himself, providing us with his contact information for pickup. The tour was lengthy, but Sam made sure we took as many stops as needed to ensure our comfort. He answered all our questions and remained engaging throughout the tour. I would highly recommend him and this tour to others. We were a group of seven, and found this tour to be a great value compared to large group tours with similar itineraries.
