Most of the visitors to South Korea consider exploring the DMZ and tend to choose Gyeonggi-do routes that are mostly commercial, but this tour would likely be much more private and less crowded. Furthermore, this is an hour's drive away from the MT Seoraksan, so if you plan to visit the Seoraksan, you would be able to enjoy two attractions on one itinerary. Additionally, on the way back, you can enjoy North Korean cuisine for lunch and grab a chance to observe traditional Korean architecture. This area was formerly part of North Korean territory before the Korean War.

Goseong Unification Observatory
You are going to visit the Korean War exhibition hall before exploring the border of North Korea. It would be much better meaningful to look at the North territory after you felt how the war was terrifying.
Goseong Unification Observatory
You will explore the border with North Korea in the Gangwondo area and view the most hostile land in the world out of the observatory.

We were part of a group from a cruise ship in port in Sockcho and the tour was 7 hours and was well organized and guided by Chan. He uses a cordless microphone, which was helpful with a rather large group. All transportation, admission fees and lunch was included, which was helpful, as we didn;t have to worry about currency conversion for the one port in S. Korea.Chan's English is very good and he's extremely knowledgeable about the DMZ and the Korean War. The itinerary was well planned and I highly recommend Chan for a guide.

That was a great tour to the DMZ, in a small group of four people. Chan was a very pleasant tour guide. He took care of everything. We did not have to wait anywhere. Scenically, the location of the DMZ is right on a beautiful stretch of coastline. We had lunch at a restaurant on the way back, a very good traditional menu. To conclude, there was a visit to a traditional village.

I had an awesome tour to the North Korean DMZ! Our professional guide was super knowledgeable and made the whole experience smooth and informative. The comfortable ride took us through beautiful coastal scenery and across an impressive suspension bridge with epic views. We explored the DMZ, a fascinating museum with historic artifacts, and a charming traditional Korean village with thatched-roof houses. Lunch at a great local restaurant was a highlight—delicious Korean BBQ with fresh sides that hit the spot. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn about history while enjoying South Korea’s stunning landscapes. 10/10!

Chan is a truly wonderful guide, and this was among the best tours that we've ever had. He is knowledgeable about the history of Korea and Sokcho but also takes the time and care to emphasize the real human impact that the war has had. Chan is incredibly friendly, kind, and attentive. He answered all our questions - and there were many! - and let us practice some Korean with him. It was also interesting to learn how dialects / certain words have become different in North Korea and South Korea after the division of the peninsula. Chan took us to the Korean War Exhibition Hall, the Goseong Unification Observatory, DMZ Museum, lunch at a restaurant that serves North Korean food, and then Wanggok Village. The day was well-paced with a good balance of information interspersed with different experiences. We enjoyed our day with Chan, and we would absolutely recommend this tour. Thanks again for such a good day!

My wife and I took a 1 day private tour with Mr Chan and enjoyed it very much. Appreciated his patience and sincerity. Everything was smooth and never rushed for time. Besides the DMZ, we also liked the authentic setting of the wongkok village, gets you the feeling that time has paused in this peaceful village. The DMZ visit on the east side consists of mainly the view from the Observatory and the museums ... no tunnel visits on this end.

Our day trip to the DMZ from Sokcho with Chan was a truly memorable and enriching experience. We came away with a much better understanding of the DMZ, its recent history, and its impact on the region. Chan is a very pleasant guide who clearly knows the area well and shared his knowledge in a way that was both clear and engaging. One of the highlights was discovering a historic village, which added a very human and cultural dimension to the day. Overall, this tour was a great way to learn more about Korean war while enjoying beautiful landscapes, and we would gladly recommend it.

I went to Sokcho specifically to see the DMZ and this tour did not disappoint. I went on the tour by myself and Chan made it very comfortable and gave a lot of very interesting information. You can definitely tell he cares a lot about the subject in the way he presents everything. He paid attention to the small details like taking pictures for because I was alone and accommodating my vegetarian diet. I also really appreciated his perspective on Buddhism and our mini meditation session. I absolutely recommend this tour

Chan is really communicative and flexibel. We had a slight delay in the morning, but with the help of Chan it was quickly handled. The tour itself gave us a lot of insights, about the DMZ but also about Korean life and buddhism / meditation. Would 100% recommend.
