This full day tour takes about 7-8 hours and differs from the standard tourist tours. Whilst visiting most of the major points of interest, we will give you an insight on the everyday’s life on an island in the middle of the Atlantic. This tour is perfect for those who are interested in the culture of our island.
Faial, life on the island, takes you around the island, in the morning you will see the best beach, the impact of the earthquake of 1998, the traces of the period of whaling and of course the volcano of Capelinhos. At lunch time, we will have a rich picnic in one of the recreational parks of Faial. In the afternoon, you will visit a cheese factory and an organic banana plantation, both representing two important economic activities of Faial.

Praia do Almoxarife
The parish Praia do Almoxarife is best known for its long beach with black sand. It used to be the first beachhead of the early settlers, nowadays a popular place to go to the beach in the summer.
Salao
The parish of Salão on the north coast of Faial is one of the places in Europe having the cleanest air, definitely an argument to visit Salão. Until the end of the whaling industry in the 1980’s, the small port of Salão was one of the launching sites of the small rowing boats with which the whales were hunted.

My friend and I took a tour while our guys were fishing. We didn’t feel like driving and it was a great way to see the island . Lots of information, wonderful lunch , and generally a good time.
