Gateway Of India
Mumbai's most famous monument, this is the starting point for most tourists who want to explore the city. It was built as a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone. Ironically, when the Raj ended in 1947, this colonial symbol also became a sort of epitaph: the last of the British ships that set sail for England left from the Gateway. Today this symbol of colonialism has got Indianised, drawing droves of local tourists and citizens. Behind the arch, there are steps leading down to the water.

3.00I had a fun tour with our driver and guide Sunil. We saw Dabbawalla and then later we saw Dharavi slum. We spent 4 hours in the slum walking around. I enjoyed it greatly. Stopped to also buy some high-end saree at a clothing shop. No ferry ride.

5.00We only had a day (off a cruise) to see Mumbai and this tour was ideal. They met us and returned us to the port with no trouble and the guide was petsonable and knowledgeable. After our all too brief first visit to the city it has definitely inspired us to return.

1.00I was not impressed with the tour. It started off with the driver picking me up from my hotel and then stopping off at a train station to pick up the tour guide. I would have enjoyed stopping off at the vegetable/produce areas. We did stop off at one of the out door laundry. With the broken English - I had to ask the tour guide at least twice at every stop can he repeat what he was saying. This was a VERY LAID BACK EXPERIENCE AND WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS TOUR OR OTHERS FROM THIS COMPANY. If correct - If I remembered ?? maybe only one person provided a comment on this tour and I guess this should have been an INDICATOR.

5.00My guide Sunil and driver Dube were excellent. They have brought me to more than 10 places, such as Slum Area, Iskcon Temple, Juhu Beach, Band Stand, Dhobi Ghat, Victoria Train Station, Prince of Wales Museum, Gateway of India, Oval Maidan, Marine Drive, Jain Temple, Kamala Neru Park, Hanging Garden and Mani Dhavan. Sunil allowed me reasonable time to visit Prince of Wales and Mani Dhavan. I had also informed Sunil to take me to where locals eat, including Street Food, and he was delighted that a foreigner was game to try a non-touristy joint.
