This was a truly life-changing experience. As an American, I had a somewhat minimal view of the history of Derry and The Troubles. Michael, my guide, gave me a history lesson to end all history lessons, and did it all in a charming, helpful manner. Any question I had, he answered. Any confusion I had, he sorted out. 10/10 would recommend to any human being and anyone even remotely interested in history-MUST do in Derry!

We visited as a school group of 13 students (ages 14–18) and three adults, and took two tours with Michael. On the first day, Michael guided us through the historic walled city of Derry, providing historical context that helped ground our understanding for the second day’s tour of the Bogside community and its experience during The Troubles. His ability to clearly explain the broader history of Ireland gave our students an essential foundation before diving into the more personal and local stories of the conflict. Michael’s engaging manner, deep knowledge of Irish history, and personal experience living through the period we were studying made a profound impact on both students and adults. He helped our group approach this complex history with greater empathy, understanding, and compassion. His tours were not only informative but also meaningful, significantly enriching our learning experience.

My husband and I went together on this tour while on our honeymoon and had an amazing experience! The complicated history of Derry was explained well. The events that lead up to the Battle of Bogside and Bloody Sunday helped us understand the tragedy of that day. Standing in the exact areas where events from that horrible day unfolded, such as aggro corner, was extremely moving. I highly recommend this walking tour to anyone wanting to understand Derry’s complicated history and the role it’s played in the north of Ireland.

Last weekend I visited Northern-Ireland for the first time. On Saturday I already had a great guided tour in Belfast about The Troubles, but on Sunday I went to visit Derry: I wanted to know everything about what The Troubles meant to Derry and in particular the story of Bloody Sunday. I booked this tour with guide Michael. First of all what I liked: the way Michael communicated to me. From Belfast I drove to Derry by rental car, and time wise I was not able to join the first timeslot in the morning. Michael responded quickly to me about this, and he offered me to join one group later. Also useful: Michael was very helpful by explaining me how the best I drove to Derry and where I could park my car. I enjoyed the tour to the max! Met up with Michael in front of the Guild Hall, from where you also have a nice view over the ancient city walls. From here we walked to the area where Bloody Sunday took place. Btw: Apart from Bloody Sunday, there were many other incidents related to The Troubles that took part in Derry. And Michael told me everything about those. Michael fed me with an enormous amount of information and he showed me the most incredible murals and memorials. Michael knows literally everything about Derry, Northern-Ireland and in particular The Troubles. He just could not stop talking and I could have listened to him for many more hours. Not sure whether this tour is interesting to an ‘average’ tourist. But once you know at least the story of Bloody Sunday, I think you really should book this tour. Highly recommended! Michael, thank you once more for this great experience!

Fantastic tour, highly recommend it! Michael offered an authentic look at the city’s past, present and future. The murals, landmarks, and personal stories made for an unforgettable experience. It gave us a much deeper understanding of Northern Ireland’s complex history. Thank you, Michael!

The walking tour was absolutely phenomenal. Michael was just incredible and I couldn't recommend it enough as an activity to do. We've been and stayed in Derry many times but this was the first time we did this and were blown away with how good it was. We had an elderly and slow walking person as part of our group and at no point did they find this difficult and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you do anything in Derry, I would recommend this as it gives such an insight into the history of how it was and what is to come. Again, Michael, thank you so much for your patience and knowledge. We loved every minute.

I'm very glad I made the time to do this tour. My guide, Michael, was local and very knowledgeable. He provided insight and context to The Troubles in Derry, that went beyond what you see in a museum. He also helped me to understand the nuances of what made the situation in Derry unique. This was a highlight of my trip!

Our family of four learned a great deal about the recent history of Derry and Northern Ireland from a knowledgeable local guide. In spite of a very cold day and snow showers, we really enjoyed the tour and the opportunity to better understand the nuances of what some refer to as ‘The Troubles’, or portrayed as religious-based violence, but which was and is related to inherent power imbalances and a reluctance to grant equality.

I had the best tour with Mickey. I was by myself and took the train from Belfast for a day trip. It was a cold day and just me on the tour and Mickey was wonderful. His stories and perspective was captivating and he was very welcoming. A must do in Derry!
