The summit of Haleakalā is 10,023 feet above sea level. The drive up to the crater will take you through a variety of landscapes and microclimates with expansive scenes and a birdʻs eye view.
The National Park begins at the 7,000 foot elevation and encompasses the entire mountaintop. There are just a few companies that have earned permits to enter and explore the area. We are one of them!

What To Expect
Haleakala Crater
Arrive at Haleakala Crater – approximately 10,000 feet above the ocean! Peruse the Haleakala Visitor Center which showcases cultural & natural history exhibits, books and maps. Walk the Pa Ka’oao Trail (.4 mile round-trip) to observe ancient rock walls, shelters and an outstanding crater view. Drive to Pu’u’ula’ula where we explore the summit and examine the highly endangered, endemic Silversword plant. Gaze at the horizon, revealing the outer lying islands of Lana’i, Kaho’olawe and Hawai’i (Big Island).
Hosmer's Grove
Take a stroll through a cloud forest featuring a hundred year old grove cedar, pine, spruce & eucalyptus (.5 mile) Study flora, fauna and the effects of invasive species. Watch for native birds and listen to their calls.

5.00After having done the Road to Hana tour in 2025 with Joe, we chose Holo Holo again for a tour to the Haleakala summit in 2026 - and our guide Gus did not disappoint! If you want to see the sites instead of having to drive to the summit yourself, this is the way to travel! Amazing views and interesting Hawaiian history!

5.00We took a private Haleakalā Summit and Stroll tour from our cruise ship to explore and learn about Haleakalā National Park. Our guide was Jasmine, and she picked us up right at the pier with a private van. Our goal was to learn as much as we could about the park. My son wanted to earn his Junior Ranger badge. Jasmine brought the printed booklet for him, and he was able to finish it easily because she explained everything in a very fun and educational way. We hiked through Hosmer Grove, and she showed us local plants and animals. We even saw the ʻIʻiwi bird and the Nēnē (Hawaiian Goose). She told us many interesting things about these beautiful animals. Then we went all the way to the summit. It felt like another world. We learned about the silversword plant, the landscape, and the crater. It was very interesting and educational. This was the best excursion of our whole cruise. We stopped at many viewpoints and enjoyed delicious snacks. Jasmine shared amazing history, geology, and even stories about modern life in Hawaii. She grew up on the island, so she knows everything about the land, culture, and nature. We could not have asked for a better guide. I totally recommend this tour. It is worth every dollar. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. It was the highlight of our cruise.
Hosmer Grove hike & Haleakala sunset

5.00This was the only tour I saw that allowed for an easy hike on the Hosmer Grove trail. The hike was filled with great views. We then were given a snack and finished our drive to the summit. We had time to explore. Just be sure to dress appropriately. Yvonne (I hope I spelled that right) was a great guide who helped us get the most out of our trip.

5.00My family and I had the pleasure of taking both the Road to Hana tour with Yvonne and the Haleakalā Summit & Stroll with Gus (June 2025). Every positive comment you read here about Yvonne and Holo Holo is 1000% true. Of course they are professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. But they go above and beyond! Helping us rearrange schedules after flight issues, making sure our older mother was comfortable with the walking paths, and ensuring we maximized the time together to my family’s preferences were all so appreciated. We met as friends and left as family. 😀 Do not hesitate to book your excursion with these truly warm, lovely people!!! P.S. 5.00We did the private summit and stroll with Joe with our family of 7 (2 adults and 5 kids) and had a great time exploring Haleakalā. Joe was a wealth of information during the entire trip and on our flight home the kids were quizzing each other with stuff Joe said during the tour and I was impressed with how much they actually heard and retained! You could tell that he really loves Maui and was excited to share this part of Maui with us first timers. We were able to hike down into the crater some, which was very cool. He guided us to a much quieter spot (except for my kids) for sunset away from the crowds and that was great. Enjoyed this tour more than I think we would the sunrise. Joe was also a fantastic photographer and took time to take some really cool photos of the family and my kids which I appreciated!

5.00Great tour with Joe up to Haleakala! We are a NP family and were out in HI for the week (on other islands) so just spent a night in Kahului just so we could do this tour. It was so well worth it. Joe was extremely knowledgeable about the area and well traveled! We learned a lot and got some great photos (he also knows much more re iPhone photography than we did :) ) We went with our teens who enjoyed it as well. We had beautiful weather but even then, it is COLD up top. Banana bread & pineapple were perfect touch. So glad we hit this NP on our way back to the mainland.
Great driver, excellent views, highly recommend this company.

5.00This company and tour are highly recommended. Our driver was excellent. He was extremely knowledgeable about the island, very friendly and a great driver. It was my Wife and I on the tour in their Bronco. We were fortunate on the day we went to have clear skies and could see the entire north side of the island from the top of the mountain with a nice view of the crater. For a private tour to the top of Haleakala, I would do this one again.

5.00Really enjoyed our private tour with Joe. Very nice guy and knowledgeable about everything on our tour. Comfortable van with pineapple and banana bread for a snack along the way. We took a bunch of pictures and will definitely use this tour company again! Don't wait to go to Maui! Tourism is in full swing since the Lahaina fire happened over a year ago.
