Our driver will pick you up at hotel lobby. Take about 1.5 hour’s drive from Beijing City to Mutianyu Great Wall and hike on the wall as long as you can. Mutianyu Great Wall is one popular section of the Great Wall but less crowded than other sections, well-known for its beautiful surroundings-the dense woods and rich pastures changing colors with the seasons of the year. After the trip, transfer you back to hotel.

What To Expect

Mutianyu Great Wall

The driver will pick you up at your hotel, it's about one and half hour to drive to Mutianyu Great Wall. The start time is flexible. During the holiday or weekends, it's better to start earlier to avoid the crowds. Upon arrival, your driver will assist with tickets and then leave you to explore independently. Optional extras include a ride to the top of the wall by cable car and a toboggan ride back down (both own expense). Depending on your arrival time, you typically have around three hours at the wall to hike and take photos. After the wall visiting ，the driver will take you back your hotel in Beijing.tour ends.

Leaving 3 stars because we received the service as described, but felt the price did not reflect the experience. This is a completely self-guided experience as described and you are required to start and finish at the 6th tower, which means your walking route on the Great Wall will be round trip regardless of your walking plan with a steady uphill climb toward the 19th tower. My wife and I felt this activity was super overpriced for what is provided, which is essentially just admission and transportation to and from the Great Wall. Everything else is an additional charge including the chairlift/toboggan as well as an airport pickup, which makes this a much more expensive day trip than it could be. If we were to visit the Mutianyu Great Wall again, like others we talked to during the day we would take a Didi transfer from Beijing to the base of the chairlift at the 14th tower and sightsee from there before walking gradually downhill toward the 6th tower and taking the toboggan from there where we would take a Didi transfer back to Beijing. This cheaper and more flexible transportation option would allow for a one way touring route of the Great Wall and a much less physically demanding exploration of the Great Wall.

Lilian picked us up directly from our hotel and was a great driver. She showed us how to get up to the Great Wall entrance and even snapped a few pictures of us before leaving us to explore at our own pace. This was a great option for people not wanting to worry about transportation, but still be able to walk around independently. We were fortunate that the wall was not very crowded the day we went.

Juan is an excellent driver and a companion. He showed us where to go and helped us buy tickets for the cable car and tobbogan. He's easy to talk to and knows a lot of interesting information about the wall.

The agents are freelance but my guess is that good tourist agencies have a network of good agents.. In my case, my private driver - Wang Chung Chie (I'm not sure if I spelled if we'll), american name Ben, was EXCELLENT. Very attentive, thoughtful and nice. I would fully recommend him as a driver.
