What To Expect
Old Town in Aarhus
The Old Town is an open-air town museum located in the Aarhus Botanical Gardens. In 1914 the museum opened as the world's first open-air museum of its kind, concentrating on town culture rather than village culture. Today the museum consists of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country.
The Viking Museum
It is a small underground museum, located at the square of Skt. Clemens Market. It is located beneath the Nordea bank building and on the site of an archaeological excavation of the 1960s, 3 m (9.8 ft) below street level. The excavations revealed various Viking Age structures, items, and parts of a human skeleton. The museum provides information regarding the history of Viking Age Aarhus. (closed on weekends!)
