A dress code is required to enter places of worship and selected museums. No shorts or sleeveless tops allowed. Knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women. You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements

On Sundays, big Catholic holidays and National holidays, guided tours inside the Basilica of St. Francis ar forbidden. Your guide will explain to you the church from outside, and you will enter alone on silence.

Due to the exposition of the remains of St. Francis, guided tours of the basilica will be suspended from February 15, 2026, to April 6, 2026. The guide will provide an explanation from outside, and then visitors will be able to enter on their own.

What To Expect

Basilica di Santa Chiara

Meet the guide at 10:30am and visit the Basilica dedicate to St. Clare. The Basilica (Basilica di Santa Chiara in Italian) is a church dedicated to and contains the remains of Saint Clare of Assisi, a follower of Saint Francis of Assisi and founder of the Order of Poor Ladies, known today as the Order of Saint Clare.

Chiesa Nuova

Chiesa Nuova. The Chiesa Nuova is a church in Assisi, Italy, built in 1615 on the site of the presumed birthplace of St. Francis, the house of Pietro di Bernardone. It was then called Chiesa Nuova because it was the last church to be built in Assisi at that time.

We were blessed to have Merica as our guide. She was just lovely and explained with such passion everything about about Assisi and Saints Clare and Francis. Well worth the money and I must say, I have a much deeper understanding of St Francis now and of St Clare.

A very nice private tour of the two main basilicas in Assisi along with city highlights. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. It was a great way to learn a lot about St Francis and St Chiara along with the village of Assisi in 2.5 hours.

This is a great tour to learn about the history of Saint Claire and Saint Francis. Most importantly, to see the remarkable frescoes in the Basicila di Francesco with a knowledgeable tour guide. Antonella was warm, friendly and truly engaged with showing us the incredible history of Assisi through the life of Saint Francis and also Saint Claire. We would highly recommend this tour. Antonella was wonderful!

Alessandra was an amazing guide. We learned so much from her during our tour of Assisi, the churches and the Basilica. We highly recommend doing a tour with her. We had already visited Assisi the day before but our tour with her was so much more informative and enjoyable.
