What sets us apart is our comprehensive, hands-on approach. We focus on the core aspects of surfing—balance, paddling, wave reading, and advanced maneuvers. We also offer video analysis with an additional to break down your performance. This allows for real-time feedback and deeper insight into your progress, helping you refine your technique faster. We always recommend video analysis if you book a package of more lessons, to deeply track your progress and analyze your development even further.

Our teaching style emphasizes safety, confidence, and a true understanding of the ocean, creating an environment where you can grow and improve at your own pace. With personalized attention and constructive feedback, we want to make sure that you leave every session feeling satisfied and progressed, building your confidence in and out of the water.

At Balance Surf, we offer tailored surf lessons designed to help you progress, at any skill level. Led by Kervin Miranda, a highly experienced instructor with a background in both skateboarding and surfing. Kervin’s teaching approach is centered around safety, skill development, and fostering a deeper understanding of the ocean. With clear guidance, constructive feedback, and personalized attention, you’ll leave each session with noticable progress and a stronger connection to the waves. As a dedicated father, Kervin has a special gift for teaching kids. He brings patience, encouragement, and a sense of fun to every lesson, inspiring the next generation of surfers to develop not only their skills but also a lasting love and respect for the ocean. He also loves working with adults of all ages, whether you’re picking up surfing later in life or want to enhance your existing skills. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kervin! Not only is he a patient and knowledgeable surf instructor, but he is an amazing person as well! Kervin helped my husband, who had never surfed before, learn to stand and consistently surf white water waves on his own in just a few days! By the end of the week, Kervin was even encouraging him to try green waves! Kervin's optimism and entusiasm about surfing was contatgeous, not only to my husband, but also to our son, who Kervin helped take (his surfing) to a whole other level! Through Kervin's instruction, our son was able to figure out techniques he had been struggling with, and was so proud to finally be able to do! Not only that, Kervin was really able to connect with him and help him with a lot of the mental part of surfing (confidence, etc.) which was HUGE! I highly recommend surfing lessons with Kervin for beginners and more experienced surfers alike! Kervin truely embodies Costa Rica's "pura vida" mentality and is an expert at sharing his passion about surfing with others! BTW- perfectly fluent in English, arrived on time, competitive rates

Wow, what can I say an amazing experience indeed and made new friends in the process. Kervin was an amazing instructor. Really great energy and I felt safe the whole time I was on the water. A wonderful time and with this being my first surf I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Pura Vida !!
Had amazing time, can't recommend enough!! Support local, surf with these folks!

I surfed for a week with these folks in Santa Teresa, and it was just perfect! I had so much fun, caught so many rad waves and I was able to advance my surfing skills big time. (I am an intermediate surfer) I surfed the week with Kervin, and I have only great things to say about him! He was super kind and a great teacher, who personalized each class based on the skills I wanted/needed to work on more. First he mapped my skill/comfort levels as well as goals for the week, and based on that we surfed few different beaches during my stay. I was super comfortable and felt safe, knowing that he knew the breaks thoroughly and was checking conditions each day before deciding where we would surf. (also he did a check in with me each day, to see what I was up for) All of the sessions were either during sunset or sunrise as per my request, and it was just magical. Additionally, I ended up booking a last minute class for our last morning in town, (I couldn't accept that we needed to head back home and I would surf no longer, haha) and did one session with Chimy, who also hosted a top notch class. I was all smiles after that week! I enjoyed their holistic approach to surfing, and the respect to the ocean and the nature that they convey with their practice. Support local, book with these folks!
