We had a wonderful time with Vassia, our wine and tapas guide. She was so kind and warm and personable and knowledgeable. The bar we went to was so lovely, the staff was so welcoming! We had the tastiest wines and lovely, elegant tapas. We had a great experience and made friends in the process. Would most definitely recommend!

Our tour with Vassia was wonderful. We learned all about the wines in the region and what best to pair them with. The meze plates were delicious and the ambience was beyond our expectations. The staff at the place we visited were so delightful. We’ll do this tour again next time we visit Athens.

My friends and I signed up for the Wine and Meze experience on the day of and Alternative Athens was extremely accommodating to fit us in. We had a GREAT experience with Andreas, who walked us through the history of wine making and how Greek wine fits into the picture. There was plenty of wine to enjoy and A LOT of delicious small plates to snack on, all of which were explained by Andreas and the staff at the cozy cafe where this all took place. In our group we had some people that are very familiar with wine and some that are new to it. This experience was great for both! Andreas is what really made the experience memorable. I never felt like we had a tour guide just spouting off a script about wine, food, and Greece. It was more like hanging out with an old friend who is well-traveled, cultured, and extremely knowledgable of wine, food, and greek and world history. Well worth the cost!

A very rewarding evening. Our guide, Antigoni Dionsiadou, spoke outstandingly good English and, from the start, was friendly and informative. She took us to a modern wine bar, Materia Prima, where the staff were efficient and the owner extremely knowledgeable about Greek wine. The evening was thoroughly enjoyable as well as being instructive (and most welcome to be outside the normal tourist destinations).
