What To Expect

Seongsan Ilchulbong

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak [UNESCO World Heritage] (Trekking : 60 minutes) Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak rose from under the sea in a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago. Located on the eastern end of Jejudo Island, there is a huge crater at the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. With the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater, it looks like a gigantic crown. While the southeast and north sides are cliffs, the northwest side is a verdant grassy hill that is connected to the Seongsan Village. The ridge provides an ideal spot for walks and for horse riding as well.

Jeju established the Jeju Haenyeo Museum in 2003 to introduce to the world the unique activities and culture of Jeju's haenyeo. Haenyeo refers to female divers who dive into the ocean water to gather various shellfish and seaweed without any diving equipment. The museum exhibits various photos of haenyeo and their activities, to provide an accurate picture of their lives. The museum also has an observatory offering an excellent view of the Hado-ri area, which has a garden with various sculptures and a resting area. The first floor lobby has a souvenir shop where visitors can purchase a variety of souvenirs related to haenyeo.

Today we had a wonderful tour of the east of Jeju island. Our guide Helly gave us a fascinating insight into the island 's custom and culture. Despite the changeable weather, the tour was a success.

I joined the YEHA East Course tour with Haley and really enjoyed the day. The schedule was well-paced, and we got to see many highlights like Seongeup Folk Village, Hamdeok Beach, the Haenyeo show, and Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. Haley was a fantastic guide, friendly, organized, and full of interesting stories about Jeju’s culture and history. The bus was comfortable, everything ran on time, and it was a stress-free way to explore the island. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see a lot in one day without worrying about transport or planning!

Haley is very sweet, cheerful and responsible. We enjoyed our day tour very much. The car is clean, the drive was smooth. Overall, a great tour. I would give five stars.
