The Great Mosque of Kairouan
The Great Mosque is the symbol of Kairouan. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful mosques in the world, one of the most impressive monuments in all of the Maghreb! Its religious prestige makes Kairouan the 4th holy city of Islam. We admire its imposing minaret, its majestic courtyard of impressive dimensions, surrounded by superbly drawn arcades and sheltering a sundial, and the high doors of richly carved cedar wood. They open onto the prayer rooms, adorned with dozens of marble columns. Built in 670, this architectural masterpiece whose appearance evokes an adobe fortress has inspired other mosques in the Maghreb.
Medina of Kairouan
The medina of Kairouan is one of the most preserved and authentic in Tunisia, where you can take a look in the souks, taste the pastries of Kairouan "Les Mekroudhs" and its artisanal carpet making.

Booked through the hotel. Our driver Manjee was incredible. Spoke fluent English and was so friendly that we didn't stop talking the whole trip. Local knowledge counts and he took us everywhere and more. Waited patiently for us at every site, helped with tickets and advised us who to interact with and who not. Each of the places were amazing and a real insight into Tunisia and it's history. El Jem is a must, bigger than the coleseum in Rome and in great condition.

They changed our departure time the day before for ramadan and we risked not being able to have breakfast. Then the guide did not speak very well Italian and was very dispersive... sometimes we did not understand what he meant... and we had to suggest or correct the wrong words he said..... then we arrived in Kairouan and the water tanks of which the visit was scheduled were closed for renovation (and no one had informed us). We visited the Mosque and then the guide gave us a micro tour of the Medina (horrendous) saying it was an extra thing, while I had it in the program. They took us to a hotel with a buffet lunch (not included and without even warning us that we were going to lunch) saying to be early... well... For the last stop Monastir was scheduled only the visit of the fortress of El Ribat which makes no sense since the Medina is in front... you have to include that too.... I wrote to the agency and complained that the tanks had not been replaced in time and asking to see the center of Monastir.... they gave us 15 min... no comment.... this trip is NOT worth the money it costs

Wow what a fantastic tour ! Roughly 8 - 10 hours taking in the beauty of central Tunisia ! It is a long day, but very well worth it. Our guide Alexandre was very informative and knowledgeable of all the sights we went to, giving us important insight into the incredible history of the country and its significance. He also was very generous allowing us time if we wanted to stop to take pictures or if there were some shops we wanted to stop in (unfortunately not all tour guides do this, though it may seem obvious). All in all, a must-do tour when in Hammamet or Tunis (as we were). You'd be kicking yourself if you left without doing it, without a doubt :)

These three sites are the sites you need to visit in Tunis. You can see the great history of the country, The best is that you can freely walk around and feel the the atmosphere of the sites.

Great day exploring three very unique places and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Iskander, my guide, was very informative and knowledgeable about the history of the area. He was punctual and on time to get back to Tunis. I highly recommend this tour.
