The Great Mosque of Kairouan
The Great Mosque is the symbol of Kairouan. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful mosques in the world, one of the most impressive monuments in all of the Maghreb! Its religious prestige makes Kairouan the 4th holy city of Islam. We admire its imposing minaret, its majestic courtyard of impressive dimensions, surrounded by superbly drawn arcades and sheltering a sundial, and the high doors of richly carved cedar wood. They open onto the prayer rooms, adorned with dozens of marble columns. Built in 670, this architectural masterpiece whose appearance evokes an adobe fortress has inspired other mosques in the Maghreb.
Medina of Kairouan
The medina of Kairouan is one of the most preserved and authentic in Tunisia, where you can take a look in the souks, taste the pastries of Kairouan "Les Mekroudhs" and its artisanal carpet making.

Mr Chaouki is a tour guide to dream of, deeply knowledgeable and very friendly. He took time out to ask and understand our interests in Tunisia and then proceeded to rearrange our itinerary for the day, eg going to El Jem early morning when it was less crowded so that we could enjoy the colosseum without the queuing and crowds. Afterwards we went to Kairouan and he made the rest on the day really memorable. But here’s the thing on our way to the Medina, Chaouki stopped by a bakery and got a freshly baked piping hot Tabouna (Local Bread) which he shared with us generously. The taste of it… Heavenly! He further came thru for us as we had a slight hiccup with another Guide for a tour of Carthage. Chaouki made the trip worthwhile.

We took the small group tour to Kairouan, El Jem and Monastir. It was one of the best tours we've done, not only in Tunisia but all around the world. Our driver and guide were prompt and followed the itinerary seamlessly. Our lovely guide, Boubou, was so knowledgeable, polite and caring. She even treated us with traditional sweets and sandwiches. We couldn't have asked for more. Definitely 5 stars.

A fantastic day out exploring beautiful sites in Tunisia. Zeid (the guide) and Fakim (the driver) were very knowledgeable and attentive, tailoring the information to our interests. We felt very safe on the roads and were shown traditional customs as well as places of interest. Their recommendation for lunch was great too. No hesitation in recommending this tour.

This private drive to Kairouan, El Djem and Monastir was unforgettable thanks to Ahmed. From the first moment, he was super kind, polite, calm and deeply professional. We drove for many hours, and Ahmed never complained once -always steady, smiling and focused. He was helpful without being intrusive, made us feel absolutely safe and comfortable, and handled everything with ease and consistency. His driving was smooth and reliable, allowing us to fully enjoy the journey. Ahmed is not just an excellent driver, but a genuinely wonderful person. Highly recommended! Many thanks for this spectacular journey!

This was an amazing tour with an enthusiastic guide that allowed us to see these sites during our short stay in Tunisia. Our only complaint is that it was incredibly rushed with only 15-20 minutes maximum at each site. We even left early and changed our route to allow more time. This became frustrating when there seemed to be no rush at all in a rug store which they made difficult to leave (downsides of being tourists). If you are older or want more time at these sites then travel to them separately but if you want a quick visit to multiple places like us then this tour was fun and informative.

Great day trip with like minded travellers. Felt safe as a solo female traveller. A bit more £££ compared to the general costs of things in Tunisia
