Voss Municipality
Voss is a municipality in Vestland county. The administrative center is the village of Vossevangen. Voss is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, forests, lakes and fast-flowing whitewater rivers. This has led to its development as a notable center of skiing, watersport, skydiving, paragliding and other adventure sports. Every year in the last week of June the area hosts the Ekstremsportveko (Extreme Sports Week), which is regarded as the world's premier extreme sport festival. Bømoen, the local airstrip, is home to Skydive Voss, one of the largest dropzones in Norway, as well as a gliding club. The rivers provide various levels of white water, attracting kayaking, rafting and river boarding. Kite surfing and para-bungee may be seen on lake Vangsvatnet. The ski area, to the north of the town, is accessible via a cable car, Voss Gondol.
Tvindefossen
Tvindefossen is a waterfall near Voss on the road to Flåm. The many-stranded 110 meters high waterfall is formed by a small stream, the Kroelvi, tumbling over a receding cliff. It is famous for its beauty and many stop here to admire it. At one point it was Norway's ninth most visited natural attraction, with 272,000 visitors.

This trip is a great way to explore more of Norway! Our guide, Arne, picked us up from our hotel, and provided information and historical details throughout our drive. We even had the opportunity to get out at 2 different lakes and take in the mountain backdrops. The Viking Village was part educational/part tourist trap. I enjoyed our hour there, but wouldn’t have wanted to spend anymore time there. This area serves as a launching pad to board the ferry. The fjord views are breathtaking, and we were fortunate to travel on a beautiful day and take advantage of all the photo opportunities. After the ferry, we popped on the Flåm train, and again got to see more picturesque views and see the Norwegian countryside. After the train we joined our guide again for the drive back to Bergen. We were able to get cool overlooks of the city. While on the ferry/train he was messaging us with specifics such as what landmarks were coming up, where to sit to get the best views, etc. It was awesome to have such constant tidbits shared with us. ***when going on the tour, make sure you have what’s app downloaded several days ahead of time***

What an amazing day was had exploring the beautiful sites of Bergen, Voss, and amazingly cool Viking Village experience, and the ever rip Fjord Cruise and Flåm Railway. Our guide Arne was such a joy. He was very prompt, punctual, knowledgeable, experienced and very funny and easygoing too! A true expert in his field, he fit many cool experiences in the one short day we had in Bergen. Picking our party of 6 up promptly as our cruise arrived into port, Arne whisked us off and through the beautiful Nordic valleys in his extremely comfortable Mercedes van. Driving through gorgeous mountains and valleys, we were delighted by numerous waterfalls and fjords, which made Arne chuckle and say "if you like that you ain't seen nothing yet!" We first arrived at the adventure-filled town of Voss (which Arne comically warned us NOT to ask anyone about Voss water or else be teased--just as one of our rear-seat passengers was whispering the inquiry-- apparently the fancy glass bottled Voss water is not from there and it's a whole silly thing for them). Arne then took us to visit one of the coolest live exhibits of a Viking Village, where we got to explore some Viking lifestyle, where we got to explore a variety of Viking homefronts and social spaces, with gardens and chickens and rooters pecking about. There were weaving/looming and leathering exhibits, as well as ax throwing and archery! From there, Arne lined us up to board a 2hr Fjord Cruise, arming us with tickets and explicit directions for scoring the best "seats" on the boat with the best viewing flexibility. Arne did not sail with us, but remained connected to us via WhatsApp and was able to track our location with the Fjord Cruise's WiFi connection. Arne texted us anytime there was a particularly cool site to see and guide us how best to view, whether it was a majestic roaring waterfall or identifying the small town that was the inspiration for Arendelle (for any interested Disney fans). The cruise was peaceful, relaxing and filled with some of the most beautiful sites I've ever scene. While we were cruising, Arne raced to our cruise end point to pick us up. He then handed us another set of tickets and timely got us to the front of the line to be the first to board Flåmsbana, the Flåm Railway. Again, Arne provided us excellent instructions to score the best seats to score the most epic views as we inclined towards Myrdal. The train even made a memorable stop at rushing waterfall with a mythical Nordic witch singing, luring us to our doom in the falls! To get back down from Myrdal, we had a 2nd train experience on the highspeed train that gets back to Bergen, but Arne picked us up in Voss and we relaxed on our scenic drive back to the ship from there. Arne drove us through Bergen and the fish market, providing recommendations for deliciously popular spots for dinners and drinks along the way. Our party had a wonderful day of adventure.

Our guide Arne is an exceptional communicator. He picked us up promptly outside of our lodging & drove us to Voss to stop & admire the lake. Then on through the mountains to catch the Flam railway which took us on a beautiful approx 1 hour mountain tour ending in Flam where we met back up with Arne & he escorted us to the amazing electric boat for a 2-hour fjord tour. Absolutely spectacular views! Arne ensured we knew exactly what to do at all times & that we had tickets & knew where to meet him after each segment. Arne also took some cool videos with his drone. He sent us all the vids/pics he took. He went above & beyond to ensure we also had a lot of links to information about the area & also gave us a lot of restaurant recommendations. He even made sure to educate us on how to take the light rail back to the airport when we left & contacted us to make sure we got there. Having the private tour kept us out of the tourist crowds & on our own schedule. It is worth the extra money! Pro tip: recommend getting breakfast/coffee to take with you for the ride to catch the Flam railway. This is an all day tour & you can get food on the boat but that’s much later in the day & would suffice for lunch not breakfast.
