• 10 Day Private Tour of Nicaragua

  We had an unforgettable experience with Gerald as our private tour guide. Our 10 day tour of Nicaragua began with two days in Leon where we hiked Cerro Negro Volcano, lunch at Las Penitas Beach, walking tour of Leon which included the Cathedral (amazing views at sunset), Central Plaza, and Art Gallery. Days three and four included a tour of Ruins of Old Leon, Managua City Tour, and the Masaya Volcano at night to see the Lava Glow. We did a city tour of Granda which included a food market, many amazing view points, and cigar making. We visited San Juan de Oriente Pottery Town where we were introduced to a local artist and were able to purchase a beautiful piece of painted pottery. We spent a few hour of relaxing and enjoying the sunshine at Lagoon of Apoyo. A sunset private boat tour in the Isletas near Granda was a great way to end the day. We were able to spot many birds and monkeys. On day five we took a ferry to Ometepe Island where we visited a Pre-Colonial Ceramic Museum, did a nature hike in Charco Verde Nature Reseve where we spotted many monkeys, birds, and had amazing views of Volcanos. Gerald brought us to a terrific beachside restaurant where we enjoyed a terrific grilled whole fish! Day six at Ometepe included a visit to Ojo de Aqua (natural water spring) for sun, swimming, and relaxation! The day concluded with a sunset kayak tour in the Isthian River. We had terrific views of wildlife (birds, cayman, owl, bats), the two volcanos in Lake Nicaragua and an amazing front row view of the sunset. Our final three days were spent at San Juan del Sur. Gerald arranged a private nature tour on ATVs to the top of the mountains of San Juan del Sur. We spotted monkeys, Toucans, a sloth, and many other birds. We also visited The Christ of the Mercy overlooking the San Juan del Sur bay. Our final two days were spent exploring San Juan del Sur on our own. Gerald provided many wonderful suggestions for restaurants and places to visit. Throughout our adventure and tour with Gerald, he provided countless details about the culture and history of each area we explored. Gerald was easy to converse with as we spend many miles with him. We appreciated his willingness to answer questions about his country and culture. We enjoyed a comfortable ride in Gerald's pickup which was air conditioned and very clean. He always had a cold bottle of water for us at the start of each day. This was my first trip to Nicaragua but my boyfriend's second. He had visited Nicaragua eight years prior with friends and toured with Gerald at that time as well. We felt very safe throughout our trip. We were fortunate to have Gerald to assist with translating as neither of us speak Spanish. We also had the privilege of eating at Gerald's pizzeria, Jungle Pizza Catarina, and meeting his wife and a few of the workers. We appreciated every step of our process with Gerald starting at the very beginning with developing our vacation itinerary. Gerald provided lodging recommendations which proved to be comfortable and affordable. Gerald was always very responsive through WhatsApp. We would highly recommend Duran Tours Nicaragua to anyone looking for an opportunity to explore a variety of activities and culture throughout Nicaragua.

  Upon initial contact with Duran Tours, Gerald reviewed with me my plans and provided incredible recommendations. Throughout my experience in Nicaragua, Gerald put safety first and provided outstanding cultural, environmental,and social highlights throughout. He is attentive to detail in planning and cost saving measures. His historical knowledge of his country and people provided me with the greatest gift I have given to myself. Needless to say, I highly recommend Duran Tours and "don't go to Nicaragua without Gerald."

  Went to Nicaragua for a great family adventure and loved that we found this company, as it was safe, affordable, and reliable. It was worry-free, which is something that was at the top of my list. We booked the company for tours of Managua, Granada, and Leon-- and for transfers up and down the coast. Gerald was knowledgeable and helpful, and the driver Roberto was kind and didn't mind when we made last-minute changes to trip. We are a crew of five, with two teenagers and a toddler.   Our trip to Nicaragua surpassed all our expectations. Gerald planned a 9 day personalized trip for us that provided all the types of experiences that we enjoy when we travel. We immediately felt comfortable with him and were amazed at his wealth of knowledge of everything Nicaraguan. Gerald is committed to supporting local businesses and took us to many little restaurants where we could sample the local cuisine. One of many memorable experiences was 'tobogganing' down the Cerro Negro volcano. We highly recommend Gerald for travellers of any age and hope to travel with him again.

  Gerald was extremely professional and always punctual. Had a vast knowledge of Nicaragua and its history. We also travelled with Alejandro Lee who is a birding professional. Both took great care of us. Highly recommend. On top of all this , both are extremely kind and good company.

  We booked a private tour with transfers included to the highlights in Nicaragua. Spending 6-day with Gerald from Duran Tours Nicaragua was magical. I have been lucky enough to travel the world extensively, but I had some hesitations about visiting Nicaragua due to the political situation and safety. However, was I wrong. Nicaragua is extremely safe, the people are lovely, the food is incredible, the culture is intact, and it is cheaper than its neighboring countries, especially Costa Rica. To me, Nicaragua felt like an untouched version of Costa Rica. During our 6-day journey, we visited many of the highlights, including León, Lake Nicaragua, Masaya Volcano, Granada, etc. Gerald knew all the best spots to visit and experiences to be had. The car was comfortable and clean, and Gerald was professional and knowledgeable about all things Nicaragua. If you are thinking of going to Nicaragua, go now!
