A dress code is required to enter places of worship and selected museums. No shorts or sleeveless tops allowed. Knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women. You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements

The tour operator is not responsible for last minute, unpredictable closures, strikes or union meetings of St Peter's Basilica. Nevertheless, the tour operator will be happy to offer customers an extended tour for the remaining time.

For the 3hours, 4hours and 5hours option: If the Basilica reaches full capacity, access will unfortunately not be allowed, and this will be beyond our control. In such a case, more time will be spent inside the museums.

Hotel drop off at the end of the tour is not included but it can be added for an extra cost. Please message us to add drop off at the end of the tour

What To Expect

Vatican Museums

You will be taken to the usually packed museum entrance, where you will meet you private tour guide and, with your "skip the line" ticket, you will skip the huge entry line and access the metal detector check. All of our tour guides are local experts and have a deep knowledge in art and history. They are perfectly trained to follow your pace, assist you throughout the whole tour and guarantee you an unforgettable experience! The tour will begin in a gorgeous panoramic terrace that offers a stunning view of St. Peter's dome overlooking the Vatican gardens. The guide will then walk you through all the highlights of the museums which include masterpieces and artifacts from different cultures and civilizations.

Linda was a great guide! Our day started off getting picked up at our hotel and dropped directly in front of the Vatican Museums where we met Linda. Linda was a fountain of knowledge of the various pieces in the museum, and spent some time explaining the history and significance of the different paintings in the Sistine Chapel which was very interesting. Having her guide us was especially helpful as one of my group had mobility issues, and just knowing the specific areas to go to for elevators or for additional access was super helpful to make sure we made the best use of our time. She also guided us around St. Peter's Basilica and gave us more context to the areas we were looking at. We were also planning to pick up tickets for the Papal Audience and Linda helped us pick these up at the end of the tour, managing to help us get them a little earlier so we wouldn't have to wait around or leave and come back and go through all the security again (though this was not something we expected of her, just a huge plus that it worked out!). It's well worth it to have a personal guide as the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica can be pretty overwhelming even if you've been there before. In the more crowded areas of the museum, it was a little hard to hear her, but after we got to the Basilica and got the audio equipment pieces, it became much easier. Even with a small group, it might be good to have these even in the museums for ample ability to hear. All in all, a great experience.

It's far more time efficient to book a tour, and this one was excellent. You can get lost in the Vatican easily, but a proper guide will help immensely. Giancarlo was a blessing to have show us around.

Our guide gave us an excellent tour of the Vatican despite large crowds and a lot of noise. She did a good job of navigating around the crowds but making sure we had a thorough tour. Her knowledge base, which she shared, was really extensive.

Very unfortunate experience and by far the worst experience I have had on a Viator private tour. Despite being in continuous communication with the tour to tell them this was a very special occasion, we were informed only upon arrival that Saint Peter’s Basilica was closed and we wouldn’t be able to see it and that this is well known by locals that the Basilica is closed the Saturday before Easter. This is a significant breach of contract by Viator who could have helped us to reschedule when the Basilica was open. Viator needs to take accountability for this misrepresentation and lack of care. This will be my dad’s last chance to se the Basilica due to age. It was his birthday wish that he would get to see the Basilica and we flew thousands of miles to make that happen. Viator let us down and was negligent in transparently communicating within a window where their was opportunity to correct this.
