Traveling through Sichuan with my husband and two kids (ages 9 and 12) was an eye-opening experience. The mix of nature, culture, and food kept all of us engaged, and having a private car throughout the trip made it far less stressful, especially with children in tow. The weather was pleasantly cool, though mornings in the mountains were brisk, and layering up was essential. We even encountered a bit of drizzle at Jiuzhaigou, but it added a certain charm to the scenery. The Giant Panda Breeding Base was a highlight for the kids. They were captivated by the baby pandas’ playful antics, and arriving early was a good tip as it was less crowded. It’s not a long visit, but it’s a memorable one. At Huanglong, our youngest decided to race ahead of us, declaring his "super speed," only to misjudge a puddle and get his shoes soaked. It’s one of those moments that felt chaotic at the time but left us laughing afterward. Our guide stepped in quickly to help dry his shoes, which was a relief. Chengdu’s ''hot pot''was a family experiment. The kids stuck to the mild side, while my husband and I cautiously tried the spicy broth. It was delicious but definitely not for the faint of heart—something worth trying at least once. The private car gave us the flexibility to stop when needed, whether for a quick snack or just to stretch. With long drives like the one to Jiuzhaigou, it was great not having to worry about coordinating schedules or dealing with public transport. For families considering a similar trip, I’d suggest packing light layers for the weather and bringing along some small distractions for the kids during the drives. The combination of nature, culture, and unique experiences made this trip memorable, and having the freedom to set our own pace really made a difference.
