Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park & Reserve

Morning – Conservation & Cultural Experience at Indigenous Eyes Your journey begins at the breathtaking Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve, a protected rainforest reserve managed by the Puntacana Ecological Foundation. Covering more than 1,500 acres of tropical forest, this sanctuary protects freshwater lagoons, native wildlife, and important conservation programs in the Dominican Republic. The experience begins with a focus on endangered and endemic species found in the region. You will learn about the Ridgway’s Hawk, one of the most endangered birds in the Caribbean. Guided by conservation experts, you’ll discover the efforts being made to protect this rare species and its important role in the local ecosystem. Next, you will visit the habitat of the impressive Rhinoceros Iguana, a unique reptile native to the island of Hispaniola and another species currently protected through conservation initiatives.

Continuing the tour, you will explore a sustainable organic apiary where you’ll learn about environmentally friendly beekeeping practices and taste fresh honey directly from the hive. This part of the experience highlights the importance of pollinators in maintaining healthy ecosystems. After this educational journey, you’ll arrive at one of the reserve’s most beautiful features: the famous Indigenous Eyes cenotes, a network of freshwater lagoons formed by underground springs beneath the forest. If you’re visiting Punta Cana and looking for something truly unforgettable beyond the beach, this underground river and cenote cave experience is an absolute must. From start to finish, the excursion feels like stepping into another world, but the real magic lies in the Sacred River and Jungle River. The Sacred River is breathtaking! Cool, crystal-clear water flowing through a hidden cave system, surrounded by ancient rock formations that feel almost spiritual. There’s a peaceful, almost surreal energy there that makes you want to pause and just take it all in. Then comes the Jungle River, which is pure adventure. Floating through lush, untouched jungle scenery feels like something out of a movie. The contrast between the stillness of the cave and the vibrant life of the jungle makes the entire experience feel perfectly balanced, both calming and exhilarating. The guides are exceptional, knowledgeable, fun, and genuinely passionate about the environment and culture. You feel completely safe the entire time while still getting that sense of wild exploration. Everything is well organized, the equipment is clean and high quality, and the whole experience feels premium without losing its authentic, natural charm. This isn’t just an excursion, it’s a memory you’ll carry with you long after you leave. Easily one of the highlights of our entire trip. 10/10 worth every second. 🌿💧
