Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park & Reserve
Morning – Conservation & Cultural Experience at Indigenous Eyes Your journey begins at the breathtaking Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve, a protected rainforest reserve managed by the Puntacana Ecological Foundation. Covering more than 1,500 acres of tropical forest, this sanctuary protects freshwater lagoons, native wildlife, and important conservation programs in the Dominican Republic. The experience begins with a focus on endangered and endemic species found in the region. You will learn about the Ridgway’s Hawk, one of the most endangered birds in the Caribbean. Guided by conservation experts, you’ll discover the efforts being made to protect this rare species and its important role in the local ecosystem. Next, you will visit the habitat of the impressive Rhinoceros Iguana, a unique reptile native to the island of Hispaniola and another species currently protected through conservation initiatives.

Continuing the tour, you will explore a sustainable organic apiary where you’ll learn about environmentally friendly beekeeping practices and taste fresh honey directly from the hive. This part of the experience highlights the importance of pollinators in maintaining healthy ecosystems. After this educational journey, you’ll arrive at one of the reserve’s most beautiful features: the famous Indigenous Eyes cenotes, a network of freshwater lagoons formed by underground springs beneath the forest. Surrounded by lush rainforest, you will have the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters of these protected cenotes—an experience that feels like discovering a hidden natural paradise.
