What To Expect
Rau Eco & Cultural Tourism Enterprise
Explore a natural African forest reserve in which several cultural tourism activities are allowed. You will be exposed to an abundance of nature covered by unique tree species. On your walk you will spot blue monkeys and black-and-white Colobus monkeys and a number of forest bird species and butterflies. Listen to the guide’s stories and get to know the uses of various trees including the very old trees spanning up to 200 years. Visit the sacred tree Mvule (Milicia excelsa) believed to be 196 years old regularly visited by locals to prey for different needs. Enjoy the great view of rice plantations dotted with water birds of different colors at the skirts of the forest and the coconut-drink offered by one of our local farmers. If the weather permits, you will get to see Mt. Kilimanjaro. After having eaten a delicious lunch prepared by our local women we invite you to enrich your forest nature walk with the experience of tree planting. By collecting seeds and planting a seedling in our tree nursery you contribute to our purpose of protecting and conserving the wonderful Rau Forest. And back home you will know that "your tree" is growing and helping us fight the climate change.

5.00It was a great experience, the walk in the Rau forest felt magical. We saw many monkeys (colobes and blue monkey) and our guide Nassoro taught us a lot of things about plants and insect. Go with this tour without any hesitation !

5.00Amazing pure experience with Linus, our guide, who picked us up at 9 for a hike through the forest. We had a great walk followed by lunch at a local. The hike was fantastic, such a great guide, told us a lot but also very sensitive to what happened in the forest. We even had medication in the forest. We saw monkeys, dig dig, caribous, African flycatcher, owls, spiders, many beautiful butterflies and many trees and flowers. The deeper we went in the forest the more it talked to us. We also walked the ricefields where e saw frogs, birds, praying mentis, lizards, dragonflies. We finished the walk at a local lady who prepared a great lunch where we tasted ugali, beef stew, bananas cooked,veg cooked, pilau rice, fruits and tasted the local Kilimanjaro beer. What a beautiful day! A day to remember.

5.00We enjoyed the activity: cycling through the rainforest in search of monkeys and discovering the rice fields. But the most important is the project itself: Daniel and his partner have set up this activity to protect the forest and include the village in the project. The proof: the activity ends with a meal prepared by a village woman: a wonderful moment of sharing.

5.00Mountainbike in the rau forest was a very nice experience. The perfect start of our holiday in Tanzania. The guide gives us a good explanation about the the trees and other plants, animals. Also the rice fields were very nice to see. We went also to a local family where we were invited to eat their local food, was very good!! I can highly recommend this excursion.

Spotting monkeys, discovering the local fauna and flora, enjoying the exceptional village life and enjoying a delicious meal. Very friendly and helpful Guide.
