Significant not only as a museum but also as a symbol of Kagoshima’s rich history and cultural heritage. It honors the city’s role in Japan’s modernization during the Meiji Restoration and the Satsuma Rebellion and is is situated within the grounds of Kagoshima Castle.
Kagoshima (Tsurumaru) Castle Ruins & Goromon
Also known as Tsurumaru Castle. The castle was built between 1602 and 1606. It still consists of the original stone walls and moat with the lush forests of Shiroyama Hill as backdrop.

I didn’t know quite what to expect when I booked this, but it was a fascinating and really fun experience! Koichi-San was very informative with a running commentary of every place he took us and even though we are quite well informed ourselves on the history of Kagoshima and the Satsuma rebellion we learned quite a bit we didn’t know. Also, he took us to the Castle gate as one of our stops, and it was fascinating to see that place. This is a wonderful short experience and we couldn’t help but be impressed by Koichi-Sam’s strength, and the speed at which he moved us in his rickshaw. I recommend this and Koichi-San most highly!!

I really enjoyed seeing Japan this way. He showed me some interesting sights. In the end, he took me back to the art museum, without charging more. We connected in an interesting way. He said that his favorite music was heavy metal. I told him what my favorite heavy metal song was. The song was obscure, but he knew who sang it.

What an incredible tour!! My tour guide was absolutely amazing and took his time to explain each stop we made during the tour and even took photos of me in front of beautiful areas. He was so kind and had great energy and enthusiasm. The beauty at each stop was so beautiful. This tour exceeded my expectations by far! I would highly recommend this tour!
