In other parts of the world, it may take several days to trek to places as beautiful as the Rob Roy Glacier, but we offer this experience in a World Heritage Area, in just one day!
Our experienced local guides are with you from pick-up to drop-off, offering their knowledge of the area, it's history, flaura & fauna.
The day begins with a scenic drive around Lake Wanaka into the Matukituki Valley. After driving through several fords, we arrive at Raspberry Hut. From here, this guided hike begins along the banks of the Matukituki River.
We enter Mt Aspiring National Park via a swing bridge, crossing the river. The walk steadily climbs through New Zealand Beech Rainforest with a wide variety of flaura & fauna.
After walking for 2.5 hours, the forest drops away and we enter open ground. Here the beauty of Rob Roy Glacier unfolds. Take time to relax and enjoy one of the best views Mother Nature offers, whilst enjoying a gourmet packed lunch!

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
You should be able to walk for 2 - 3 hours on a graded track, with a day pack, some steep or slippery sections.
If you have any dietary requirements, you must let us know ahead of time.

Lake Wanaka
The day begins with a scenic drive around Lake Wanaka. Try to spot 'That Wanaka Tree', Ruby Island and more iconic locations!
Roys Peak Track
We drive away from Wanaka passing under the shadow of the iconic Roy's Peak.

5.00Oh my we had the best day ever with Nicola who picked us up at our hotel and spent the entire day making sure we were safe and had the best experience ever. Nicola is a rare gem who not only was our guide for the walk but she made the day really enjoyable with her knowledge of plant and birds and life in Nee Zealand and the walk of a lifetime for us. It wasn’t an easy trek for us as we are not used to to the rocky road or the elevation needed to get to where we were going. However, Nicola has the patience of no one I know and made sure I was comfortable enough to keep going . It was exhilarating and the beauty was breathtaking . We were able to take great photos and had so many funny moments. The bird watching and plant experience made our day just a great all around experience. Thank you Nicola we won’t forget this trip because of you. New Zealand’s finest guide and excellent resource for emergency boot repair.

5.00We had such an amazing time hiking to Rob Roy glacier! We have done many hikes all over the world from Fitz Roy in Patagonia to the Matterhorn in Switzerland. This location gave us the same sense of awe and wonder. Pictures don't do this place justice and you get such a big reward at the end for a relatively short and moderate hike to the viewpoint. Having the guides was awesome from navigating the river crossings (rentals might get damaged going across) to packing a delicious lunch for you at the top to having all the necessary first aid kits when needed. This was definitely one of the highlights of our 2 week trip to New Zealand. Our guides Marcus and Michael were AWESOME!! So friendly and knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around.

5.00I spent the day with the lovely Markus and Eco Adventures Wanaka doing the Rob Roy Glacier Experience (hike only). They took care of everything: pick up, driving, lunch, and even a coffee while admiring the glacier. Markus was a friendly, knowledgeable and attentive guide. The scenery was spectacular! I would strongly recommend this for anyone visiting Wanaka.

5.00The weather forecast was for strong winds and possible snow, so we were not sure whether the tour would go ahead. Michael our guide collected us just before 9am and explained the changing weather.He suggested that we reassess heading out to the start of the hike, as the weather can change quickly. And it did! We enjoyed a wonderful hike up the Rob Roy Glacier which was well paced and informative. Lunch was provided and excellent. The light rain enhanced the beauty of the forest. Such a great day out. Recommended. Thank you😀

5.00This was a great guided hike! Nik was an incredible guide, she was very knowledgeable about the plants and birds in the area. The hike itself was great, not too easy but not too challenging, and amazing views of the glacier at the end. I would recommend this guided hike to anyone!

5.00I had a lovely day with this tour. The hike was amazing and the views were stunning. Nik was an incredible guide! She was extremely knowledgeable about the different plants and birds we saw throughout the hike. I would recommend this guided hike to anyone!

5.00We had an amazing day out with Nic. She was very patient and helpful getting us the experience we and I had really hoped for. It was a more difficult and technical hike than I had assumed from home and for us, but Nic got my mom through it all! My mom made it to the lower lookout, and she had a cup of coffee while she watched the playful kea. It was great. I went up to the upper lookout with Nic. So I also got to see what I had hoped and dreamed of. Super satisfied. Nic was brilliant at sharing all her knowledge of the trees, plants and birds as well. We felt safe and comfortable with her. Even the drive to the hike is fantastic, crossing the fords, seeing all the sheep. So lucky to have a beautiful day out. Will cherish this for ages!

5.00I took my 8 year old daughter on an Eco Adventures Wanaka trip and it was absolutely magical and super interesting. I was worried it would be too hard for her but she managed it with no worries. Kiddo will be talking about for years to come. Next time we come back to Wanaka we will definitely do another adventure with these guys - we felt safe, cared for, informed and entertained.
