Colosseum
Your journey into antiquity begins with the Colosseum, one of the world’s most iconic sights. Your guide will call on their historical and archaeological expertise to tell you all about the battles, both physical and political, that played out in this incredible amphitheater. You might be surprised to learn that ‘Gladiator’ didn’t get everything right and that feats of ancient engineering even allowed the Romans to re-enact naval battles here.
Palatine Hill
The next stop takes you back to the very beginning. The Palatine Hill is the spot Romulus chose to found the city that would become Rome in 753 BC – a decision that ended in tragedy for his brother Remus. Here, steeped in history, you’ll enjoy spectacular views overlooking your next destination: the Roman Forum.

A fantastic visit to the Colosseum. The staff were very helpful and our tour guide Valerio made even better our tour. He is very knowledgeable and he shares it in a way that feels natural and engaging rather than like a rehearsed script. He brought real depth to the experience — interesting details about the gladiators, the architecture, and daily life in ancient Rome. He was also great at taking questions and clearly loves what he does. Well worth it. If you get the chance to have Valerio as your guide, take it.

The tour guide was absolutely outstanding however the coloeum was too crowded. Dress in layers because first its cold and then it gets hot.

My family of three toured the Colosseum and Forum with another family of four. Our tour guide, whose name *I think* was Elena, was wonderful. She was trained as an archeologist, having completed an undergraduate and graduate degrees in archeology. But she was clearly interested in making sure that all the members of our group--which included 3 teenage boys between the ages of 13 and 15--understood the history and context of the Colosseum and ancient Roman culture. I felt like the tour was very complete. Elena did a great job of answering individual and group questions. Her English is very, very good, and she is entertaining. One thing I will note is that I was originally disappointed because I hadn't been able to book a tour of the subterranean part of the Colosseum. Given what I've learned now and how great the tour we had was, I wouldn't hesitate to suggest that someone book this tour and NOT see the subterranean area. I will also suggest that anyone booking this tour (or any other similar tour in Rome) be highly aware that all spaces will be packed with individuals, both visiting with other tourist groups or on their own. This cannot be helped. In sum: this was a GREAT experience.
