Colosseum
Your journey into antiquity begins with the Colosseum, one of the world’s most iconic sights. Your guide will call on their historical and archaeological expertise to tell you all about the battles, both physical and political, that played out in this incredible amphitheater. You might be surprised to learn that ‘Gladiator’ didn’t get everything right and that feats of ancient engineering even allowed the Romans to re-enact naval battles here.
Palatine Hill
The next stop takes you back to the very beginning. The Palatine Hill is the spot Romulus chose to found the city that would become Rome in 753 BC – a decision that ended in tragedy for his brother Remus. Here, steeped in history, you’ll enjoy spectacular views overlooking your next destination: the Roman Forum.

Colosseum- A landmark, a legend, a symbol. By now, I believe everyone knows how it looks like, but can one tell that they really know what it is without exploring it inside and out? It is quite well preserved considering that it is almost 2000 years old. Walking on the Arena takes you back to ancient times when gladiators, romans and emperors filled the space. Because of how popular and in-demand it is, it is highly advisable that one purchases a ticket in advance. Although it can be visited without a guide, having one ensures that one doesn’t miss out on important historical facts- movie parallels are also drawn at times! Roman Forum- It just makes sense to visit this after the Colosseum. It used to be the centre of day-to-day life in Rome and was the place which hosted several important institutions and where key historical events took place (i.e. the assassination of Julius Caesar). Some monuments are still in fairly good condition today- Curia Julia (Senate House) and the Arch of Septimius Severus, to name a few. The guide provided us with the relevant information about this place. Palatine Hill- Dubbed “the first nucleus of the Roman Empire”, this open-air museum introduces the visitor to the “posh” area of how emperors used to live back in the day. The guide only offers important information at the entrance- afterwards, it is free time for everyone and one can choose to remain there as long as they wish for. We would recommend to set aside at least half a day for this tour so you can enjoy it to the fullest without being in a hurry.

We loved our guided tour of the Coliseum and Forum with our guide (and historian), Emanuela. Not only did we get to experience and marvel at the beauty and magnificence of the area and its architecture, we enjoyed a detailed history of the landscape and the society that lived there over generations. Emanuele was informative and engaging. We had plenty of time for pictures and tips on how to spend more time exploring the park and the surrounding areas.

A great tour with an enthusiastic and engaging guide. You get to see and do so much but in a very relaxed way, at a good pace. Enough time to see things without racing around!

Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging, answering any questions we had. We learned so much more than if we had gone on our own.

Maria Luisa was a wonderful tour guide for the colosseum and ancient rome tour. She was incredibly knowledgeable! She took the time to show my mom where the elevator was in the colosseum and took us to spots where there was minimal stairs. She was great!

First time in Rome and obviously the Colosseum is a must. I felt before we went a guided tour would be best as I knew some stuff about it but not everything and also hoping a guide could take us to the very best spots. We have a small group of 19 on the tour and Ami was incredible, loads of knowledge and stories about the history, some I knew and some completely new to me. The 3 hours was enough time to be shown all the major areas of the site and then once completed being allowed to roam around freely to continue exploring was special. Even though it was busy the atmosphere really felt like you had gone back in time and could imagine the battles and the busy streets of the forum. For the price of the tour it is an absolute no brainer so worth the money.

Invaluable information gained, our experience would have been greatly changed if we tried to do it without a guide.
