Our guide, Laura, was an absolute rockstar. She’s an archaeologist whose enthusiasm was totally contagious. Instead of dry history, she loaded us up with juicy, amusing gossip about the former popes and artists. Plus, with our intimate group of just six people, we could easily weave through the thick crowds at our own comfortable pace.

The detail inside is overwhelming. The emotion is overwhelming. The scale is overwhelming. But for me, one moment stood above all the others. Michelangelo’s Pietà. I wasn’t prepared for what that statue would make me feel. Carved by Michelangelo when he was only 24 years old, the sculpture shows Mary holding the body of Jesus after the crucifixion. And somehow, out of cold marble he created pure emotion. The sorrow on Mary’s face. The gentleness of her hands. The detail in Christ’s body. It honestly stopped me in my tracks. Not because it’s famous. Not because it’s beautiful. Because you can FEEL it. The pain. The love. The sacrifice. The humanity. In a place filled with overwhelming grandeur, the Pietà somehow made everything feel deeply personal. At one point during the tour I stopped trying to take pictures and simply stood there taking it all in. Faith. History. Art. Human achievement. God. No matter what your beliefs are, the Vatican leaves an impression on your soul. And honestly? I couldn’t imagine having a better guide for this experience than our Vatican guide, Davide. Funny.Brilliant.Passionate.Sarcastic.Proud Roman.Devout Catholic. Quite the combination. He somehow managed to strike the PERFECT balance between deep reverence and hilarious honesty. One minute he was passionately explaining the spiritual significance of St. Peter’s Basilica and the next he’d casually shrug and say:“Ah yes…another example of the Pope stealing things from the Romans.” 🤣 The guy was incredible. He made thousands of years of history feel alive instead of academic. Not dry facts. Not memorized speeches. Stories.Drama.Power struggles.Art.Faith.Humanity. Exactly the way Rome should be experienced. By the end of the tour we all felt like we weren’t just looking at history anymore, we were somehow standing inside it. At about 11:30am we hugged David goodbye (Chow-Chow). Just a WOW.

Our tour guide - Linda - was fabulous and well educated about the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. She guided us through the "massive crowd" with care and attention. I would recommend this tour with Linda over and over again.

My husband and I took this tour yesterday and it was absolutely wonderful. It was supposed to be 6 people, I think and our tour guide. The other 4 people never showed so it was just my husband and I and our tour guide, Matteo. Such a great experience. Matteo was very kind and very knowledgeable and gave us so much information about so many details that we were left stunned by the experience. Absolutely worth your time and money. I would recommend this tour, and especially Matteo to anyone looking for a wonderful experience of history and beauty.
