I previously had a great experience with the Taste of Testaccio Food Tour 10 years ago, but this tour did not meet my expectations. Except for the amazing fried artichoke, everything else was typical fare you would find at any Rome restaurant or vendor (two typical pastas, bruschetta, suppli, canoli, gelato). We took the Trastevere Twilight "updated route". We had 7 different foods and 4 drinks. I found out the following day that another couple who took the tour had 10 different foods (including pork stew or porchetta) and 4 drinks. I would expect that when you sign up for this tour you would have similar experiences and VALUE but the disparity between the "routes" was very obvious. I contacted the company and their comment was " I can appreciate why the variation in both the number and type of tastings may have come as a surprise. However, as these are effectively two different routes, the itineraries and food offerings are not directly comparable." Apparently I should have kept "in mind that our team is always happy to answer any questions you may have about our tours and routes before booking" and asked before I booked. Maybe the company should clearly post about the different routes on their website instead of assuming a person would contact them on the specific details. My recommendation is to go to a restaurant and order a variety of dishes. You can have two very nice dinners for the same cost as the $300 USD food tour.

We brought our 5 children, ages 10-21, on the tour. We all had a wonderful time. Great food, great wine, interesting nuggets of history, and the culture of Trastevere.
