There are 12 stops, and you can start at any of those stops… hop on and off as much as you wish. Balboa Park is a must to spend some time and stop 1 is a transfer point for the drivers, so everyone has to get off at that stop. However there are other buses for you to get on or you can spend time in old town.

  • Worth it—get Tommy as your guide if you can

Tommy, our excellent and funny guide, made our trip! My husband has a hearing impairment, so we sat just behind the glass window seats and were able to hear him very well while still enjoying the breezy day. We got off another bus and switched because he had trouble understanding the driver. So that out of the way, Tommy had a story, often with a personal connection, that brought the history of this rather young city to life.. We didn’t want to hop off at all! So we got to the end of the tour and then went back to see Little Italy, eating at Filippi’s Pizza Grotto that Tommy recommended. Tip: parking at the restaurant is free when you eat there. That’s like getting half off your lunch. Then we drove back to see the Del Coronado hotel and enjoyed a walk on its beautiful beaches and a look at the lobby and courtyard.

We didn’t get a tour because it ended before we could get on the bus. We arrived at 3:05 and the bus had left. Very disappointed

Rating 4 instead of 5 for 1 minor issue. My wife and I signed up for this but we didn’t know it ended around 4pm and the last hop on was limited based on location like 3:20pm. We weren’t emailed a map to find pick up locations and when I contacted support, I never got a response. It took us about 40 minutes to find bus stop and get on the bus using the help of local information booths. We ended up missing about half the tour since we only made it from stop 10 to 4. Other than my own confusion of how to get on the bus, it was a great tour. So now to the good news. Once on the bus, it was great. We got to go around the city and learn about various neighborhoods. San Diego has a rich and exciting history and this bus tour makes it all the more enjoyable by understanding its origins. I do highly recommend this bus tour. As long as you get on when they start at 10:00am and use it through 3:20. Given that my wife and I didn’t get on until 1:10pm, we’ll have to sign up and do it again next time. It is worth the cost.

This is my second or third time on the trolley tour over the years. The tour is always outstanding. My elderly mom who has lived in San Diego for over 50 years loves going on the tour every few years to see San Diego without having to drive around and find parking, etc. We both learn stuff we didn’t know every time! This time our guide was Tommy and he did an amazing job. He’s super knowledgeable and was so well prepared. He even prints out visuals to show the people in the bus to make the experience better. His jokes are funny and his personality is fun too. He’s a true professional and you can tell he cares about his passengers and loves San Diego. Definitely recommend Tommy and these tours!

Please ensure all employees understand the correct process for onboarding passengers with and without tickets. Every singke driver is encountered understood a completely different process and set of rules. I had my 2 day pass in my hand yet was denied boarding because I didn't have a "sticker " A STICKER?! Number 1 I'm not wearing a sticker like a toddler, number 2 I had an actual ticket in my hand. I was told I'd have to wait 20 min fir the next trolley after I got the sticker. The next driver that picked us up had no idea about the sticker at all. Totally ruined our schedule for the day.

We had a great tour of San Diego on the Hop On Hop Off Trolley. We really liked the live commentary versus the prerecorded info on other hop on hop off buses that usually doesn't match up with where you are on the bus. We only had one day in San Diego, so we went around the whole loop 2 times. We got off in Little Italy to get some lunch, and off in Seaport Village to view the beautiful bay. We also looked around the Old Town Park. Nikolas and Mary Beth were both great drivers/guides with loads of information and history of San Diego. Highly recommend this tour.
