This 3D2N journey to Kinabatangan is more than just a tour; it's an opportunity to see the oldest rainforest on Earth up close. Here, you will see a wild, pulsing heart that defies taming—a monument to the beauty and tenacity of nature—where hornbills cast shadows across crimson sunsets and pygmy elephants trumpet at dusk.

Prepare to embark on a journey where ancient rainforests meet winding chocolate-brown rivers, and wildlife spectacles unfold around every bend. The Kinabatangan River in Malaysian Borneo isn’t just a destination, it’s a pulsating, living theatre of nature, offering one of Asia’s most concentrated wildlife experiences, a real world featured in David Attenborough’s documentaries experience.

  • Disappointing! Overpriced and not as advertised

    DonnaGoldCoastQld,Apr 9, 2026

    - Review from Tripadvisor

    2.00

We didn’t love it here and have a hard time recommending it but wanted to share our experience with caveats for future travelers. The property photographs well, food was good, and we enjoyed the cruises. We’ve stayed in some very nice hotels in Malaysia and this was the most expensive yet overpriced for what you get/don’t get. $400AUD twin share a night!! You also pay extra for wifi Extra for night cruise, extra for key deposit , extra for night jungle walk, tourist tax!! We got the tourist tax refunded as again, was advertised as ‘local taxes included’. No fridge, no kettle no shampoo or conditioner, No fresh fruit! The little things you expect for that price. The reception staff are lovely and were very accommodating when we realized what was advertised on Trip Advisor did not align with what the resort actually offers. Advertised was ‘free flowing drinks’ what we got was a hot and cold water tap! We pushed back on this and after much tooing and froing with Wadi Rum tours they finally agreed to cover our drinks!! Our river cruise guide barely spoke English so even though I’m sure he’s incredibly knowledgeable about the wildlife we barely got more than a point and a name called out which often meant missing the animal by the time we realized what we were looking for or where it was. At times we got close enough to other boats and could hear their captains giving actual guided tours. Side note: it seems the Intrepid travel groups had better guides and perks. We didn’t get to see any orangutans or pygmy elephants but that’s life and nature for ya. The jungle walk is just through some trees on the property and there was nothing to see but a pile of old elephant 💩 with mushrooms growing out of it. 😆 Our AC stopped working midday and I woke up from a nap feeling like I’d had a heat stroke. We were in new huts with no tree coverage just sun beating down on tin roof, like a sauna in our room. AC couldn’t cope! The flies at meal times are quite annoying but to be expected with staying in the jungle. Mosquitoes surprisingly weren’t too bad. Lots of downtime which is nice but it’s so hot there’s nowhere to comfortably relax to read a book or nap besides your room. A pool would be 🤩 to refresh and since the river is dotted with crocs along the shore def not for swimming. We knew going in that it would be eco living for a couple of days with the trade off of possibly seeing the Big 5 of Malaysia in their natural habitat but it looked so nice and sounded so promising. 2D1N is prob the better way to go than the 3D2N we did. And even though it’s not in the wild, seeing the orangutans at Sepilok, Sun Bears at the Conservation Center, and Proboscis monkeys at Lubak Bay Sanctuary are a better use of time and money. But those sunrises and sunsets over the water… 🙌 🔥 😍

  • Disappointing and Misleading.

Be very cautious when booking with this company. They advertise a “lowest price guaranteed” but don’t clearly state where you’ll actually be staying, which should have been a red flag. After booking, I was bombarded with messages pushing me to upgrade from a supposedly “very basic” accommodation. The itinerary I received on arrival differed from what I was sold, and I later discovered I’d been charged more than double the price compared to booking directly with the accommodation. Deeply disappointing and misleading. I would not recommend.

  • Go to the jungle

    Karhuvaari,Jan 6, 2026

You will travel to the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary area, the Kinabatangan River. The drive from Sandakan or Lahad Datu takes about 2.5 hours. At the resort, you will sleep in a resort built on stilts. The rooms are clean and the beds are good. The washing facilities are separate. Meals are served in the resort lobby. Activities include river boat rides and about an hour of jungle walks. The rest of the time is spent relaxing. The trip was not bad, but despite this, it did not meet my expectations. The trip was saved from complete disappointment by the elephants. The river rides focused too much on birds and monkeys, which you can see elsewhere in Sabah. The river also has crocodiles, but we did not see them. The positive experience was also overshadowed by the view of the rainforests cut down for palm oil, which should be fully protected. I thought the group size was too large at the resort. There were at most a dozen boats on the river at the same point. There were also boats from other resorts. The staff and guides were friendly.

We have done the 3D2N and had an amazing experience! We have seen some orang-oetans, a lot of crocodiles and even more monkeys and birds! We had a lovely guide, aloi, who made it an even better experience. The rest of the staff was also really nice to us. We got so many good memories from this trip!

Was really great unique experience in the middle of the jungle. We didn’t always have great weather but that’s also the Rainforest had something great about it. We saw 3of the Big 5, we didn't think bad rather good now because so you also know these are wild animals and are not exhibited here as in the zoo. Food and staff were mega ! All in all cool experience ! Recommended.
