As a food tour guide in Nashville, I never pass up an opportunity to take a food tour myself and learn about a new destination. In my opinion, food tours are the very best way to "meet" a city. Although I had visited Savannah several times before, I had never taken a food tour here, so I intentionally arrived a few days early before our girls' trip just for this experience. When I shared my plans, three other friends decided to come early and join me. During our first girls' trip, I led them on a food tour of Nashville, and they enjoyed it so much that they wanted to experience Savannah the same way. Laura was our guide, and although she was relatively new, she did a wonderful job sharing Savannah's history, culture, and food scene. While the individual portions seemed small at first, the selections were thoughtfully curated. Because many of the dishes were rich and satisfying, we all agreed we felt pleasantly full by the end of the tour. At our meeting spot, we sampled fruit spreads, a biscuit, a cheese straw, and sweet tea. Many of the items were available for purchase, and guests received a 10% discount, which was a nice touch. I ended up buying pralines and honey straws for our trip goody bags—perfect local treats to share with the group. The Sausage Roll at The Little Crown by Pie Society was absolutely divine. The pastry was buttery, flaky, and perfectly executed. The She-Crab Soup at Rhett was the best any of us had during our entire Savannah trip. One member of our group has a shellfish allergy, so instead of the Shrimp & Grits served at one stop, she was given a Fried Green Tomato with Grits. Initially, she wasn't very enthusiastic about the substitution, but it ended up being her favorite dish of the tour. Everyone commented on the grits, which were incredibly creamy and unlike any we had eaten before. The Sourdough Gnocchi at Municipal was another standout—unique, flavorful, and delicious. We also enjoyed sampling a variety of honeys at Savannah Bee Company, which made for a sweet ending to a memorable afternoon. Overall, this was a fun, informative, and delicious introduction to Savannah's food scene, and I would happily recommend it to both first-time visitors and returning travelers looking to experience the city in a different way.

Would recommend to anyone who wants to try some good food - but maybe not what I’d consider Savannah-centric.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tastings as well as the walk through the shops/restaurants where we were welcomed to do the samplings. But what made the tour so enjoyable was the energy and enthusiasm about Savannah, its foods and its colorful history provided by Josh, our tour guide. This was the highlight of our stay in Savannah.

Excellent tour. Gail was a fantastic guide. The tastings were fantastic and the information from our guide was very interesting. If you’re allergic to shellfish then skip it because the she-crab soup was delicious and so were the shrimp and grits. I’ll do this one again if I’m ever back in Savannah
