Mount Rushmore National Memorial

The most famous and recognizable memorial celebrating the nationhood of the USA must be the 4 presidential faces that look out from Mount Rushmore. Though you will have seen it many times depicted on TV, movies and photos, there is no equivalent to seeing it with your own eyes and feeling the scale and depth of the sculpture.

  • Great narrator and automatic play

Was impressed with the narration immediately starting wherever our location was. Though when we doubled-back, the narration duplicated, so we just had to skip/pause. Engaging narrator!

  • Not worth it

Couldn’t start and stop the tour without having to listen to the beginning over and over. Could not fast forward.

Cell coverage is very iffy in this area so we missed a lot of the narration. Please consider making the audio available while offline.

This is a very well done drive along tour. Some points that were unclear to me before starting the tour. You can start the tour anywhere on the route. I am not certain what the times provided are on the webpage description, the don't seem to be travel times from destination to the next, nor recommended attraction times. There are really three different loops: There is the deadwood to devils tower trip etc.; the Black hills, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy horse, custer, etc.; and, the badlands. You could easily spend a day on each. My favorites were the Badlands, needles hwy, Sylvan lake, deadwood. We didn't get to the custer wildlife loop or devils rock, and weren't able to get to do some of the trail hikes that we wanted and skipped some of the lesser attractions as we only have 1 day and a half. So, to reiterate. If you want to see it all, I recommend the three loops in 3 days. As I said, the ride along instructions were very informative, well organized and included directions. It does trigger the audio via the GPS and there are some spots where you can lose signal briefly and thereby have gaps in the audio. Also, it would be helpful if the app were to work with carplay so you could follow in your car map. If you get off the designated path, you then have to navigate back to the point where the tour will pick up again. All in all, if you want to self-guide this tour will do the trick. There is lots of historical background and detailed information on the sites.
