In 1808, the Portuguese court moved to Rio de Janeiro, and so the city became the capital of an empire. This historical tour begins in front of the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga, one of the oldest churches in the city, where you will learn about the early founding of Rio de Janeiro. Pepe, your narrator, is passionate about telling you the stories and legends that downtown Rio has to offer. You will be able to admire the Palacio Imperial from the outside and learn about the influence Napoleon's efforts in Europe had on Rio's founding and its architectural heritage.
