Deep into the desas outside of Jogjakarta, we walked amidst the Selogriyo terraced padi fields to reach the temple. We get to see how the villagers live, amidst their daily activities. Stopped for drinks and snacks of home-grown/roasted coffee, boiled cassavas and fried bananas at a kiosk overlooking the valley of pagi fields was really amazing.

We had a very good experience on this tour. Our guide Bima was very attentive to our needs and shared interesting insights about the region, its nature, culture and history. The first stop of the tour was a trek to Selogriyo Temple, taking us through stunning rice terraces before arriving at this serene temple. The second stop was a waterfall which offered a breathtaking views with the Merapi volcano in the background. We also went down to see the waterfall up close. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the beautiful nature surrounding Yogyakarta :)

We had an amazing day with Arma. The best part was certainly the hike through the rice fields, it’s just incredibly green and beautiful and peaceful. But all places we went to felt somewhat remote and special. We went off the beaten paths quite a lot and didn’t see many tourists. Instead we met some of the rice farmers and went to a local coffee production. Arma was a super relaxed guide and shared a lot of knowledge about rice cultivation, local customs etc. I’d recommend bringing a hat and maybe a snack. Highly recommended trip!

Had fun but definitely wear outdoor shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Also carry an umbrella and rain jacket just in case. We got lucky it rained during our ride to the next stop and it stopped when we arrived so we didn’t get rained on while outside. But the heavy rains made it unsafe to walk down to the waterfall so we missed out on seeing it up close. Overall it was still a good experience and the locals were very nice and friendly. Our tour guide was also great and spoke good English.
