Go in the morning when it is less crowded with tourists. Very interesting how many people are buried or memorialized here. Didn’t realize that.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour with only 10 people and our tour guide Tony. He was delightful and very knowledgeable. Tony told us some interesting anecdotes about Downton Abbey’s cast and filming. He was also very informative about the places that we visited, including a church dating back to before the Norman Conquest. We had three hours for our visit at Highclere Castle which is currently occupied by the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. We enjoyed seeing the inside of the castle, which by the way there is no photography allowed inside the castle, but they have a great book for purchase that includes many wonderful photographs and interesting historical information. We especially enjoyed the Egyptian exhibition. I had forgotten that it was the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who funded and was deeply involved in the search and excavation of the tomb of Tutankhamun.
