Enjoys the breath-takingly beautiful views of/from Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge and Kirosan Observatory Park. E-bike enables you to easily climb up even the steep hill irrespective of age, gender and bike experience. The Shimanami Kaido is a 70-kilometer-long expressway that spans across the Seto Inland Sea in Japan. It connects the island of Honshu to the island of Shikoku and consists of a series of bridges, tunnels, and causeways. The expressway is known for its beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding islands, and it is popular with tourists and locals alike for cycling and driving. Along the route, there are several rest stops and lookout points where visitors can take in the views and enjoy the scenery. From the main route, you can take detours through the small islands linked by the Shimanami Kaido. On the islands you’ll find shrines and temples hidden with coniferous forests, pristine beaches abutted by rocky piers, and sprawling citrus groves subsuming the hillsides. This is one of Japan’s most popular cycling routes for a reason – so if you like exploring on two wheels, don’t miss out on the Shimanami Kaido.

SO MUCH FUN! Well first - we had perfect weather. Our guide Masa was excellent as was our driver Asa. Both were happy, positive people and fun to be around. Their English was very good too. We had created a special tour for ourselves as we needed to end up in Onomichi. That would mean a 76k ride. We chose e-bikes! There is a lot of up and down along with some flatter stretches. It was BEAUTIFUL. The scenery was just spectacular. It was so cool to go from the “granite” island to the “salt” island (where we had a “salt” ice cream - yum, to the island of God, and the lemon island. I think that’s as far as we got because we stopped at the most out of the way cafe Omishima Hitore Marche (not sure which island we were on) -a little tiny, two table cafe where the chef made our delicious food one by one (so it took a while.). But that’s ok - it was great. You do of course need to take off your shoes and sit on the floor which was more difficult for the 6 foot American men I was with. We decided to end at the 50k mark, return our bikes there abd take the ferry on to Onomichi. What fun! It’s important to note that many people spend a few days on this route, staying at hotels on different islands as they go. We just didn’t have enough time.

It was a breathtaking experience! The scenery is spectacular! The main guide Masa was extremely nice and professional. There was a backup van in case of an emergency. I was out of shape but the e-bikes made de tour possible. It will be a great memory!
