Antigua Guatemala is located just 1:15 hours from Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala. Founded in 1543, Antigua remains very similar to its original layout. Once, the capital for the Spanish kingdom established in Central America now is considered a heritage´s world site according to Unesco since 1979 and also one of the most charming and safest cities in Central America.

During this quick visit, you will enjoy the interesting talk of our experienced guide about the city´s traditions and history. Our highlight, it´s the visit to Santo Domingo Monastery and Resort. This XVI century, "half-restored" property has opened to its visitors the old facilities. In this magnificent location, you will experience a high-end atmosphere at any moment but also you will be capable to witness history in every detail. The complex offers amongst its main attractions museums for glass, art and silver, crypts, murals, catacombs and more. This is definitely the kind of tour you can´t miss.

Unfortunately, due to a teachers strike and earthquake activity, our tour had to be turned around. However, our guide Eduardo and driver Ozman were wonderful. We set out from the port and immediately Eduardo started providing an amazing amount of history of the country of our destination which was to be to Antigua. In the short time we were with Eduardo we really learned a lot about Guatemala. We have no doubt if our tour could have been completed it would have been 5 stars! As the trip had to be cancelled a refund was issued by the tour company/Viator. The refund was made within 1-2 days. Great service all.

It’s a 90 minute very bumpy ride from the port to Antigua. However, the ride is worth the trip. Our guide Moises took us through the old town at a leisurely pace. We made a few stops en route to see markets, jade jewellers and historical landmarks. The narrow cobbled streets are filled with street vendors and fresh fruit stands. We stopped at a restaurant for a bite and a beer. It was perfect. It’s amazing how the street view of establishments hides the inner areas and courtyards. The stores and businesses and private homes are mostly hidden behind huge wooden doors or small openings. Once you’re inside it’s amazing to see the beauty hidden in plain sight. There’s a lot of history as well as legends and superstitions of the indigenous people. Moises was happy to share his knowledge of Mayan culture. There were four of us (2 couples) and we travelled by private air conditioned van.

This tour was AMAZING! Moses (tour guide) and Osmond (the driver) were fantastic. We had a great ride to Antigua from the cruise port where we chatted, learned some history, stopped at some viewpoints for pictures, etc. before reaching Antigua. Then we visited some sites (a church, a market, the city hall, the town square, etc.), the Jade Factory, a shopping market, and ate lunch at a delicious restaurant that he recommended. Moses knew so many people in town who all greeted him with smiles and hugs. We have done several tours over the years when cruising and this is one of the very best. Trust me! You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent tour with extremely knowledgeable guide Eduardo & good driver. Ship should have had a longer stay in this port instead of back onboard at 230p but Eduardo made the most of it. Highly recommend.
