After a short 10 min. ride on the famous “Tröll Bus”, you’ll immerse yourself in the glacier and begin a short hike to the ice cap. Once there, your guide will explain how to get geared up and what the safest practices to walk on a glacial surface. Once you have your crampons and all necessary equipment on it’s time to take to the ice and begin the adventure. As you get into the glacier outlet, the majestic features of the natural world amaze you. Falljökull is a glacial tongue from Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. The icefall in the area is unique on earth and the further you get, the more it will blow your mind. The out-worldly scenery is comprised the ice formations in the area: deep crevasses, pale moulins, and even ice sculptures. The further we continue exploring, the more the beautiful it gets. Since we’re going to be so high up, we will be able to observe panoramas over Skaftafell National Park, that has gained fame in the last years for being the location for many films and shows. Note that you spend approximately 3 hours and a half hours on the glacier during this expedition.

Our original 5 hour tour was scheduled for the prior day but was cancelled by high winds. Although, we ended up rebooking it the back office was unresponsive for several hours resulting considerable uncertainty on our part as to how to re-arrange our remaining plans. In the end it was all fixed to our satisfaction. Ana, our tour guide, was great and helped my wife with the descent when her ankle acted up. Experiencing the glacier up close made for a very memorable experience.

First ever glacier hike — 5 hours on the ice and I survived! 🥶😂 Huge shoutout to our amazing guide Stella 💙 She was so passionate and patient, helping beginners like me every step of the way. She even used her ice axe to make little paths so we could walk easier. Plus, she showed us stunning views that made every slip and wobble worth it. 10/10 would do it again! ⛰️✨

We had a super fun time with Troll on the 5 hour glacier hike on Skaftafell! Ana was an excellent guide and we had such a fun group (8 of us) that we really clicked with. Each group started together on the mountain and ended up going different routes, so it made it feel more private than being on a huge tour with other tourists. When you arrive to Troll it's a bit unclear what you're supposed to do- make sure you arrive early to get fitted with crampons and gear, and use the bathroom before you leave! It's a quick bus ride to the drop site, then a 20 minute walk or so from the car park up to the trailhead (feels way longer on the way back)! The pace was doable and despite never having hiked with crampons on ice before, we felt comfortable and safe the entire trip. Do not skip this tour- you're shorting yourself by taking the shorter hike!! The glacier is incredible. Make sure to wear layers since it can get pretty warm hiking up!

I can absolutely recommend the 5 hour glacier tour. You go a lot higher than at the 3 hour trip and that makes it extra special. You have a beautiful view over the many crevices and the exceptional shapes of the ice. Our guide Filip did an excellent job: he had an eye for each participant and knew how to tell fascinating stories. Highly recommended!

Amazing guides making the experience very enjoyable. It was raining and cloudy, which could have really dampened the experience - but it was completely unique and a lot of interesting views- like most things in the area this was very popular in the summer, so it did feel a bit like grand central station on the glacier, but once we got higher the crowds thinned, which I was grateful for.

An awesome experience! Troll.is provides you with all the necessary equipment (including boots and rain gear rentals if you don't have your own) and a great guide for your walk. Our guide, Mark, was extremely knowledgeable about glaciers and was very patient and helpful throughout our tour. You do need to be able to hike uphill and downhill, with a decent amount of altitude gain, but you don't need to be a hardcore hiker to enjoy/complete the tour. A great company to go with and a wonderful part of the Iceland experience.
