Pompeii Archaeological Park
Pompeii is a vast archaeological site in southern Italy’s Campania region, near the coast of the Bay of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The preserved site features excavated ruins of streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.

So much history covered in one day. This is definitely the way to see Pompeii. I would have been lost, had I tried to do a self guided tour. Our tour guide, LuLu was quite funny and engaging. Mt. Vesuvio was breathtaking. As I started climbing up the path (definitely wear sneakers, people in sandals looked miserable), I was thinking, “you’ve seen one volcano, you’ve seen them all.” Well I was wrong. It was magnificent up there. Breathtaking. It was hot and bring cash for a cold water or soda long the way, the cc machines didn’t work while I was there. The one at the top of the path did, but I’m not sure it always does. Highly recommend. Oh and the lunch was good too. I ordered the pizza and the tiramisu was a must try everywhere I went on this trip.

Really great way to see Pompeii and Vesuvius in one day! Easy pick up from central square in Sorrento. Air conditioned bus, driven skillfully and safely by GiGi (these windy mountain roads are no joke!). LuLu, our tour guide, was incredibly informative, energetic, and accommodating. She knew exactly how to get us through the top sites in Pompeii without crowds, even getting the group in the best position to stand in the shade on a very hot day. Excellent lunch at a reasonable price in between Pompeii and Vesuvius. Wear comfortable shoes/clothing for a lot of time on your feet. The bus will drive up as far as they can on Vesuvius then you can hike up to the top. This is optional - the views are still nice from the parking lot! The hike up is about a mile with ~600 feet of elevation gain (out and back, so 2mi total) so it’s steep but many people in our group were able to do it! There’s stands along the way to purchase snacks/drinks (cash may be easier, given it’s hard to connect using credit card so far up). If you’re prone to motion sickness, try seeing if you can sit at the front or use Dramamine or motion sickness bands. Most of the ride is through the windy roads of the Sorrentine peninsula and Vesuvius. I get pretty bad motion sickness but looking out the front window and using bands and Dramamine I was ok! I’d absolutely recommend this tour for anyone who would like to see both sites in one day with zero hassle!

Lulu, our wonderful tour guide, displayed a lot of energy and knowledge. Importantly she protected us from the sun in our tour. The lunch after Pompeii was a very nice touch and greatly appreciated. The volcano was a challenge but great to conquer.

Our tour guide for Pompeii was wonderful. Kept the pace fast enough to allow us to see most of the location without excess tourist. The trek to Mt. V was mod/hard and I recommend closed toed shoes and lots of water for this day! Very worth it

I absolutely recommend this tour to anyone that wants to visit Pompeii and hike Mt Vesuvius. Our guide through Pompeii was highly knowledgeable, easily understood, and knew exactly what to show us to make the most of the time we had. The timing was excellent, minimal crowds first thing so this is a bonus! Hiking Mt Vesuvius was exactly as others have reviewed, the hike is quite steep and roughly 25 mins on gravel, so please wear appropriate shoes. I had an excellent day!
