This is a great day out in one of the most scenic places in the world. Our driver/ courier, Amy Rain, was very good : helpful, cheerful and very attentive to the needs of the group. Hope you are lucky like us in seeing the waterfalls in full spate and the dolphins playing alongside the boat.

If you’re on the fence about spending money on this superb day trip, I’m here to recommend that you just do it! Think of it this way: For 13 hours, you get to enjoy some of the most jaw-dropping scenery you might ever see, without worrying about driving on (or off) the left side of the road ;-) Seriously, it was just one stunning backdrop after another, both on the way there and back (from Queenstown to Milford Sound) with a beautiful 2ish hour cruise in Milford Sound. Our driver, Malav, was excellent! He was personable, knowledgeable, and a great driver. And he added small touches that really made the trip extra special, like urging us to refill our water bottles in glacial runoff (SO refreshing and delicious! I couldn’t recommend this trip more highly!

We had a fantastic day. Although it’s a long day with early start our guide Will was engaging and informative as we stopped along the way. It takes 4+ hours each way from Queenstown so wish we’d known their sister company did it from Te Anau The boat trip was just stunning & we were lucky to have sunshine & waterfalls (due to rain the day before). Beware the absolute soaking if you are brave enough to stand up front when the boat goes up close!! Glacial facial 🤣 Great day

My husband and I signed up for this tour by Altitude because we had heard that we should not miss seeing Milford Sound which is actually a fiord. It's a long drive along the way there and back to Queenstown, but it's worth the visit. We were in a van with 14 passengers and the driver, Nev, who stopped an adequate number of times for food, drink, and bathrooms. Unfortunately, this was the only tour that would not stop at our hotel to pick us up which seems unreasonable considering that there was another couple in the same location, and we had to pay a taxi $44 for transport. Our driver taught us about New Zealand and the areas we drove through, but he was not particularly engaging. The speakers weren't working so those in the back could not hear him at all. Also, there were no outlets for charging phones which we did have on our other tours with a different company. When we arrived barely on time for our boat, Nev told us to wait for him rather than boarding the boat. We saw that other tour group leaders gave their customers tickets to board and told them to hurry ahead for the best locations on the boat. We were the last to board. Finally, on the drive back to Queenstown, Nev was driving too close to cars ahead of him, and at one point, our van's automatic brake stopped us suddenly to prevent us from hitting the car ahead as it took a right turn. I think it is worth the 12 hour day, but I advise you to use a different company.

Thomas was our driver for the trip and he was amazing. His knowledge of the land and stories kept us entertained throughout the journey and we had several picturesque stops along the route. Everything ran on time. The cruise in Milford was spectacular. Highly recommend the experience. Being in a small group made it more comfortable and enjoyable.

Firstly we want to make a huge compliment and a huge thank you to our tour guide Thomas, just 23yrs old. He truly made this trip. He was personable, polite and extremely knowledgeable and a credit to Altitude Tours. And added to that, a very good driver on some very bendy roads. I nicknamed him ‘Dr Thomas’ as I understood that is where his studies hopefully will take him. We joined the small coach in Queenstown at 6.30am!! Thomas introduced himself and explained it would be a 4 hour drive to Milford Sound taking us into the UNESCO Heritage Site of the Fiordland National Park. He told us that we would be stopping off at scenic points and comfort stops. He shared so many interesting facts and figures as our journey progressed through simply stunning scenery. He made sure that at each stop, he would allow us enough time to view the scene and take photos. He also explained that after the 2 hour cruise, some of the group had booked to fly back to Queenstown others (like us) had booked to travel back on the bus. However, should any of the ‘non flight’ people wanted to fly back instead of the return bus journey, he would do his best to arrange the flight. My husband and I opted for that. And we were lucky that Thomas managed to secure us a seat to fly back On arrival at Milford Sound, we were handed a bag containing a packed lunch and Thomas then walked us down to board the boat and within just a few minutes we set sail on a sunny morning with beautiful blue skies - perfect. Words cannot describe the majestic fjord - it is simply breathtaking. On return to the port, Thomas then introduced us to our Cessna pilot - Ben. My husband and I had never experienced flying in a 6 seater light aircraft. And what an experience it was. Flying over the Southern Alps on a clear sunny day seeing the blue glacial water - the entire day will stay etched in our memories as one trip of a lifetime. Thank you Altitude and thank you Thomas
