As seen on Adelady and SA Weekender, this 2-hour buggy adventure takes you to wild places totally inaccessible to anyone else. After admiring koalas in the 500-year-old gum trees along the banks of the Eleanor river, your experienced Guide will take you to the edge of the Earth! At the coast you’ll marvel at the beauty of the rugged cliffs, turquoise waters and huge swell. You’ll get to go to a pristine remote beach where there will be nothing between you and Antarctica besides the vast Southern Ocean. Finish off, of course, with a ride through the desert-like landscape of Little Sahara’s epic inland sand dunes. This adventure is sure to be one to remember!

We are located in Vivonne Bay, which is approximately a 90-minute drive from the Penneshaw ferry terminal, but unfortunately, we do not provide a shuttle service nor are there taxis/ubers on the island.

What To Expect

Little Sahara

Cruise through 500 year old gum forests and over the Eleanor River, spotting local flare and fauna, including orchids, Ligurian bees, and koala sightings GUARANTEED. Travel out to the south coast, stopping at our secluded, private and pristine beach, before travelling on to rugged cliff tops. Frequently spotted is a range of sea and bird life including whales, dolphins, seals, ospreys and wedge tailed eagles. Experience our incredible inland sand dunes like few others have. Learn about the history of the area and enjoy the ride!

This tour was excellent; thanks Al for sharing our values. It was informative and varied; seeing the Ligurian bee hive was a bonus but also talking about the mellee birds and seeing a mound. Tasting samphire reminded us of our coastal home in the UK! The drive on to the dunes and sliding down to the beach was memorable, what a location! It was humbling to stare out to Antarctica and just take a moment to think. The force of nature was very apparent; the courage of past pioneers and the ingenuity of First Nations. Al was informative and witty; a great balance. We recommend taking the after hours tour to get a sense of solitude. The ride home over the large dunes was thrilling. We recommend everyone takes this tour! Thankfully you survived the fires; we hope you continue to thrive.
The Buggy Tour is a must when you visit Kangaroo Island.

We booked the Koala walking tour...which was great! When we were there we saw the Buggy's and thought, "that looks amazing", so we booked that too. It was even more fun than it looked. Our guide, Aldis, was fabulous. If you are staying on Kangaroo Island, the Buggy tour is a must...and you even get to see koala's from the buggy in between the adrenaline pumping off-roading.

We did three activities at little Sahara, sandboarding a guided walk and a buggy tour, sandboarding was ok but didn’t really live up to the hype, the toboggan was much faster and more fun in our experience as the sandboarding was slow and didn’t really hold an edge like surfing or snowboarding, next we did a guided walk, we saw plenty of koalas and learned lots about the natural area and the sand dunes, a very easy walk and great for the whole family, finally we did the buggy tour, it was great fun and our guid mikyla was very informative, we saw stunning beaches amazing dunes and plenty of koalas, stopping to try natural foods or admire the grass trees, we also got to try some of the kangaroo island honey included in our tour which was delicious and lead us to buying a number of jars to take home. Would recommend great experience

Our family of 5 did the 50-minute ride at Little Sahara and had a great time. Riding over the sand dunes was heaps of fun and was one of highlights of our trip to Kangaroo Island. Our guide, Fox, was awesome - friendly, easy to talk to, and made sure everyone felt safe while still having a good time. Would definitely recommend giving it a go.

Little Sahara "After Hours Buggy Adventure" (110 min) was an exceptionally enjoyable experience. There were just 2 of us on that day, so it felt very much like a private tour (as a bonus :)). Our tour guide, Fox, is very experienced and knowledgeable. We saw and learned hips of things as we drove through the sparkling white sands of Little Sahara, had a thrilling ride up and down sand dunes, saw a number of koalas and kangaroos when we drove through the woodland area along the Eleanor River, as well as a gigantic beehive, reached the coastline with the lookout on the private beach and the ocean. Highly recommend visiting Little Sahara and, given a chance, have a Buggy Adventure tour.

We had the BEST experience at Little Sahara Adventure Centre on Kangaroo Island! A huge shoutout to Fox and Mickayla, they were both incredible guides. They took us across the sand dunes and out to the most beautiful hidden beach, and made the whole adventure fun, informative, and super welcoming. Their knowledge of the area, combined with their friendly energy, really made the tour feel personal and memorable. They were also so accommodating throughout the day, making sure everyone felt comfortable and got the most out of the experience. Highly recommend booking with Little Sahara, and if you can, request Fox and Mickayla, they made our trip unforgettable!

Buggy tour around the property was exciting even in the rain. We saw kangaroos and koalas. Getting into the landscape and close to the wildlife was a highlight of our Kangaroo Island adventure.
