As a Canadian Signature Experience, Norquay's Via Ferrata is a must-do activity when visiting Banff National Park. Our highly qualified ACMG-certified guides will lead you up the cliffs of Mt Norquay that hang above the Bow Valley, overlooking the town of Banff.

Steel handholds, ladders, and footsteps as well as a steel safety cable are secured to the rock wall providing assistance and safety. Climbers are safely secured to the safety cable while climbing.

The Explorer Route is a 2.5-hour introduction to Via Ferrata and a great way to test out this adrenaline-packed alpine activity. Climb pitches, and cross the course’s picturesque suspension bridge.

Although no prior climbing experience is necessary, guests should be fit enough to climb a ladder.

A liability Waiver must be signed by all via ferrata participants

Maximum participant weight is 120 kgs (265 lbs)

What To Expect

Step out of your comfort zone and try our Explorer route. Spend some time with your guide, get introduced to the equipment, head up a few pitches and cross the suspension bridge. This is a great choice for those who are slightly limited on time or looking for an introduction to Via Ferrata. Get access to incredible views of Banff National Park. A true climbing/mountaineering but no experience is required!

We had the pleasure of having Dan as our guide. He was very patient and made our experience so pleasant and unforgettable. We ended up having just the two of us in the group and it really felt like VIP. I can’t wait for other Via Ferrata experiences in the near future thanks to Dan.

Being up in age I was not sure of what this climb would be like. After an important review of clipping on an off cable and using the “staples” and rungs secured into the mountain we went 10 minutes to be halted by lightning reports. After a pleasant 30 minute delay inside the restaurant we started over on the climb. The guide was excellent, he walked us (group of 4 climbers) through the climb with timely tips and instructions on what was a lifetime adventure. The online picture showing a section of the climb is spot on. I can say this is a bucket list accomplishment.

I’m a 61-year-old man in relatively good health. I did have a full left knee replaced two years ago. I like pushing myself to my limits to see what I can do and this did not disappoint. While it was one of the most challenging and hardest things I’ve done in years, it was also one of the most enjoyable and I loved it. There are several options depending on the level of difficulty you’re looking for. I decided to do the Ridgewalker experience which is kind of in the middle of difficulty level. They’ve done a fantastic job, making it a rigorous but safe adventure. Our guide Amanda was friendly, knowledgable and very attentive to each person on the tour. She got some great pics of us during the climb and shared them with us at the end. Amanda also made sure we all stayed safe during the entire tour. From start to finish, it was an excellent experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves adventure in their lives.

Excellent experience doing the Summiteer Route! It was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for my husband and I, and something I know we will talk about for years to come. Our guide was amazing! Friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging! The views were insane and I definitely got my adrenaline high. Highly recommend this experience!

This was an incredible experience! We totally loved the entire morning. The climb challenged my comfort zone which is a good thing. Our guide was Zach and he was wonderful. It truly was a day to remember. I highly recommend it.
