Great communication pre-tour to make sure we were kitted out correctly. All equipment provided. Trek customised for us based on our level of fitness and the prevailing weather conditions. This is not a 'one size fits all' kind of tour - you can do as much or as little as you want. Trek was demanding due to recent snowfall. Chris gave lots of insight into the animals and trees of the forrest which made the trip more interesting. Topped off by a delicious late lunch of ramen. A really great day and thoroughly recommended if you come to Sapporo.

Chris was a wonderful guide who made sure we had a wondeful day in the mountains of Hokkaido. We had an incredible snowshoeing experience and ended the day with a wonderful hansun over looking a beautiful lake in a beautiful setting. Chris made the day special.

I would rate snowshoeing as my no.1 attraction in Hokkaido. The wilderness of Hokkaido's forest fully covered by snow was uncovered beautifully by Chris, my tour guide. He is super familiar with the area and carefully avoided any area that can potentially be challenging to trek or risky due to crevices or waterbodies. The general opinion is that snowshoeing is not for everyone and not easy to do. This is definitely a myth! Anyone who can walk well can do this tour! At the end of snowshoeing tour, we went to the onsen as well which was nice. A visit to Hokkaido is not complete without this tour.

Amazing!!!!! Chris was very experienced and knowledgeable. It was our first experience snow shoeing so we so glad he was very patient. We were treated with pre cooked lunch in the trails and an onsen at the end of the hike.

Our guide Chris was very knowledgeable about the Northern Japan endemic trees . We had good learning about spruce and other kinds of trees in Hokkaido prefecture. Despite the heavy snow , my husband and I felt safe under the guidance of Chris. He gave tips on how to use snow shoes going uphill in steep slippery snow and downhill as well. He prepared packed lunch in pouches but because of the heavy snow , we opt to go back to the van after 523masl summit . Chris patiently waited outside in the van during our Onsen and even treated us to authentic Hokkaido Ramen (with free boiled eggs) at a local restaurant . My husband and I had our "Anniversary Romantic Adventure" Snow shoeing in Hokkaido ! Thank you Chris and to Viator

24/2/2025 Chris was exceptionally accommodating and patient throughout our snowshoe hiking adventure on Fujino Fuji, which stands at 532 meters. With Chris as our guide, we snowshoed from the base to the summit of the mountain. We are grateful for his encouragement as he patiently helped us navigate the snow-covered slopes. Along the hike, he encouraged us to pause, listen quietly to the cheerful chirping of blue robins among the leafless trees, and observe the winter breeze blowing the piled snow off the branches. We also spotted tracks of Japanese squirrels, raccoons, and foxes. The onsen experience included with our adventure was the icing on the cake! We will definitely be returning for another exciting 3-day hike in Hokkaido with Chris, who also has his website: trekmatehokkaido.com. Thank you, Chris, for a breathtaking day!

I went on a snowshoeing trek with Chris and it was epic! The weather changed frequently throughout the trip, but overall the snow was so fluffy, the conversation was great, and there was a lot to see and enjoy on this epic journey. We did an easy mountain hike to 2 peaks (Fujino). We cooked our campfire lunches with the camp stove and enjoyed a nice hot meal on a really cold day where the wind gusts started to make it a bit chilly when we stopped moving for lunch time. Then we made our way to the onsen which was a nice way to complete the trip. Even though I lost my locker key, everything was great about this trip. Thank you so much Chris for a great experience in Hokkaido. Anyone who wants to snowshoe and get a local perspective should definitely sign up for this tour. It's a fun full day! He also recommended the ski jumping comp that happened that weekend which was also a great locals insight into events happening in the area! Woohoo!

The tour was fantastic, if you are in Sapporo you need to get on this tour. The national park was beautiful, and the snowshoe experience was exactly what we wanted. Chris was an amazing tour guide. He picked us up, provided us all the gear we needed, and took us through an amazing hike. Additionally, he was very responsive and helpful. I have extensive tattoos so he found an onsen for us that I could visit after the hike. It is tricky to find onsen sometimes in Japan if you are heavily tattooed. I woukd recommend this tour and Chris as a guide to anyone looking for this experience!

Snowshoeing in the mountains outside of Sapporo with Chris was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As much as I enjoyed the scenery and solitude, the banter Chris and I shared almost the entire time was also top-notch. He is the ultimate trek mate! The course Chris had chosen for us to navigate was perfect for my ability level, which is something I had been impressed with on other reviews of his tours I'd read prior to my signing up for this one. Lunch prepared by Chris and eaten at the turnaround point of the hike was the perfect way to divide the day in half. Chris is a true professional, and the insight he shared from his ten years spent in the area added a unique dimension to our tour. I got a thorough workout, enjoyed the pristine nature of this region, and learned so much from Chris. In short, everything was beyond my expectations. I would definitely do another experience with Chris on a future trip to Sapporo.
