Our rigorous Sunset Desert Jeep Tour is a bumpy off-road sightseeing tour through the scenic Jeep trails of the Tonto National Forest, north of Scottsdale, Arizona.
Experience a world-famous Arizona sunset (weather dependent) as our professional tour guides teach you about the Sonoran desert flora, fauna, and Native American history. At sunset, we will stop at our panoramic lookout point overseeing the historic Great Western Trail.
This is a public tour (not private). Public tour vehicles: Modified open-air vertical-row (sideways) seating Jeep Gladiator (14 seats) and Jeep YJ (7 seats).
Total duration of this tour ranges from 2 to 3 hours depending on the time of year. Confirm the exact end time with your tour guide before the tour.
Scottsdale Adventure Tours is a special recreation permit-holder through the U.S. Department of Agriculture: Cave Creek Ranger District.

This is a guide-led tour; guests will NOT be driving the Jeep.
From November to February, bring a coat or jacket. The temperature will drop ~20 degrees after sunset.
Our bumpy off-road Jeep tours are low-speed, jarring rides through rough terrain. Please ensure that every guest in your party understands that this off-road tour is a low-speed, bumpy ride through rough terrain.
Please carefully review our list of health restrictions and requirements. Due to safety concerns, we are unable to accommodate guests who do not meet the tour requirements.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled tour. Tour leaves promptly.
Children under age of 8 must be in a Car Seat
Pregnant individuals are prohibited from participating in this high risk activity.
No Neck Problems.
Not recommended for passengers who get motion sickness.
Weight limit per seat: 275 pounds. Please contact our office at least 24 hours before the tour to make special arrangements.
Must be physically able to climb a step ladder to enter the lifted Jeeps.
Not recommended for passengers with any condition that could be aggravated by a rough, bumpy, and jarring off-road Jeep tour.

Our permitted Tonto National Forest trails are connected to North Scottsdale, Arizona. The trailhead is located 15 minutes northeast of our operations office.

5.00We had an absolutely incredible experience with thescottsdaletours.com—hands down one of the highlights of our trip! Our guide, Ed, was phenomenal. He struck the perfect balance of fun, knowledge, and energy, keeping both the kids (ages 6–13) and the adults fully engaged the entire time. That’s not easy to do, but Ed made it look effortless. The scenery was nothing short of breathtaking—every turn felt like a postcard. And the jeep ride? Pure adrenaline in the best way. It was exhilarating, adventurous, and just the right amount of wild while still feeling completely safe. If you’re even considering a tour, don’t think twice—book it. And if you can request Ed, do it. He truly made the experience unforgettable.

5.00FUN! FUN! FUN! Do yourself a favor and book this excursion! This Jeep adventure takes you into the Sonora Desert- up and down and side-to-side. When I booked this trip for my family (my husband, 15YO daughter, and me), I never expected it to be so fun and educational! We were all surprised to learn so much about the plants and animals living in the desert while we were “rip roaring” through the sand trails. Our tour guide, Grace, was a wonderfully experienced off-road driver with a wealth of knowledge about the geography of the Sonora desert as well as history and nature of the area. (She even shared some really cool treasures with us that she had made from local natural products.) I fully recommend this adventure (my husband and daughter do too)! **Note: Be sure to bring a jacket! It gets chilly in the desert, especially when you’re riding in an open-air Jeep. **Note #2: Try to book with Grace if you can! She is a great photographer as well and tour guide. She’ll take some fantastic photos of you and your party.

5.00The tour overall was wonderful—the scenery was incredible and we were fortunate enough to see an amazing sunset. Our tour guide is what took this experience to the next level. Brian was the best! He made our trip so memorable—he provided education and history; he had a hands on approach by bringing examples of various plants; we were even lucky enough to taste cactus! He even brought prickly pear lemonade for our family to toast with at sunset. Brian was also a great photographer, taking so many incredible-and FUN—pictures of our family. It’s sometimes hard to impress teenagers but Brian managed to captivate our four kids (age 13-17). We would 100% recommend this tour, especially with Brian as your guide!
