Squamish Estuary
Estuaries occur where coastal rivers enter the sea, creating a mix of fresh and saltwater habitats. These habitats change with each tide. During flood tide, ocean water pulses into the estuary and up the lower reaches of the river. At ebb, fresh water pours into the estuary basin, pushing a wedge of lighter fresh water and riverborne sediments into the estuary. Why is an estuary important? Protected inner waters of estuaries, laden with sediment, form the richest of coastal environments. Their productivity far exceeds that of either the finest agricultural land or the open ocean. 80% of the Fraser Estuary has been lost, altered/developed. 50% of the Squamish estuary has been lost, altered/developed. Estuaries are a scarce resource, less than 3% of BC's coastline.

It was a great experience and well worth the drive from Vancouver to see this beautiful place. Our guide was great and gave details about the town while taking us to a lot of beautiful sites. I had never ridden an e-bike before but made it a fun and easy ride.

We had an amazing time on the Eco E-Bike Tour with Christian in Squamish! He was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and fun to be around. Christian tailored the ride perfectly to match our abilities, guiding us through beautiful trails with just the right level of challenge and excitement. His passion for the area and for biking really came through, making the whole experience both informative and a total blast. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a better day. Excellent bike ride and tour through Squamish. The trails went from paved to gravel to mountain biking style keeping it fun and interesting. The guide was a long time local and pointed out so many unique things. We loved the bikes too. Comfortable and powerful when you needed it.

Best way to see the area. Great bikes and great scenery. Got to see the animals and plants up close. Tour guide goes at your pace. It was a hot day but the ride was still very comfortable because of the forest canopy.

Best memory is Brent looking over his right shoulder to describe to us the river, estuary, trees or history of Squamish. We saw tree roots where a bear could hibernate. So amazing, so fun and so educational. Not too long, not too short. Just right!
