St Maarten was by far one of my favorite trips recently. It is the most beautiful Island tucked away in the Caribbean, truly described as 'Two Nations, One Island'. The southern side of the Island is the Dutch side with a lot of activity and a bustling nightlife. We got to see their famous carnivals (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The parades are a must see, so dazzling, vibrant and joyful. I found the people in the Island the most kind, friendly and helpful. If you are the type to do a lot during the day by activities and enjoy casual dinner meals, the Dutch side is the best bet. Restaurants like 'Julliete's Bistro', 'The Green House', 'Skip Jack's', 'Ginger' are some places to check out for seafood. The northern side of the island is the French side. One has to cross the border to experience the charm of both sides of the island. The French side is much quieter to experience the peaceful solitude of the pristine beaches. It has a concentration of fine dining places and boasts of some particularly great restaurants. We went to this gem of a restaurant called the Le Pressoir in Grand case and had an amazing dinner. Our 9 day stay there flew by with the blink of an eye. We loved to spend time at the late night bars in the Dutch side and also experienced an evening walking in Phillipsburg and ate at the road side shack and loved the spicy chicken on a stick and hot Johnny cakes!! That was mmmm...delicious!! This island was our quick get away to unwind, relax and get back to the grind! Our vacation in St. Maarten will be a beautiful memory. Hope to be back there again!!!

We booked for a Sunday, but it turned out that not many shops are open on Sundays. That would have been nice to know ahead of time; or to have been offered a discount. The timeframe is not closely followed, so it turned into an 8-hour day with a fair amount of time spent waiting.

The tour was very informative. Mr Cutty was very knowledgeable and engaging. He made suggestions on how to utilize our time on the tour better, but he let the group decide which stops we wanted to cut short & which stops we wanted to stay longer. I recommend this tour, if you want a overview of both Dutch and French side. You'll get some great photos, beach time and plenty of shopping it also!! I loved the tour!!!

Our visit to the iconic beach at the end of the island's airport runway, with planes coming in to land at what seems just a few feet above our heads, was the highlight of the tour. Our local driver explained that if we wanted to see the 2 scheduled flights land, we would have to skip the distillery tour - everyone agreed, and didn't regret the choice. TIP: if a visit to this beach is your top priority, be sure to book an early tour or you'll miss them. The drive around the small island was scenic (sunny day). To make up for the missed distillery tour our driver stopped at the border between the Dutch and French halves of the island so that we could take pictures of us standing astride the frontier, one foot in each country. The difference between the 2 countries (since that's what they effectively are) was stark: the Dutch side was colorful with typical island buildings and housing, happy go lucky people and bright colours. The French side has more typical European architecture, the people are more austere (some might say unwelcoming) and the whole vibe was different. The one negative (hence 4 stars instead of 5) was the crowds - and the long traffic jams on the one main road around the island. Fortunately the tour van was modern and comfortable so sitting in a long jams wasn't unbearable. All in all a fun trip, with an excellent driver/tour guide.

Great way to see both sides of the island on a budget . The numerous stops were a plus and our driver Cutty went out of his way to make sure we were able to hit every spot on the schedule.

Excellent small group tour. Driver was very informative and flexible. Was able to see almost everything that we wanted except Orient Beach was swapped out for Grand Case because of excessive sargassum

Had a great experience with Mr. Cutty! I traveled solo but the group made us feel comfortable and one particular gentleman really made the trip fun! We were served endless drinks and overall the tour was nice. There were a lot of attractions to see given it was my first time. Would do this again, book you won’t regret it!
