A long day involving coach from Milan to St Moritz, just over two hours on Red Train then two and a half hours return on coach to Milan but well worth it. The trip up to St Moritz is very scenic once you leave Milan. Coach follows east shore of Lake Como then winds up lower Alps with beautiful scenery. Just over an hour to look around St Moritz then boarded train for a leisurely trip winding through the Alps with stunning scenery to the town of Tirano. Time for a wander round and a drink before the drive back to Milan. Our guide Salvatore did an excellent job with an interesting commentary, not just about the scenery, but also on the history, culture and food of the area. Don't confuse the Bernina Red Train with the Bernina Express Train which is more luxurious but more expensive.

The trip overall was excellent. The bus driver was very professional and friendly. Our guide, Hajo, started off well, showing a willingness to help me from the beginning, even assisting me in changing seats because I was feeling dizzy due to the direction of travel. However, towards the end of the tour, in Tirano, I had a health issue: a stomach problem that forced me to make an emergency stop, causing a slight delay of about 10 minutes. Upon arrival, the guide spoke to me very rudely and shouted at me in a very disrespectful manner, accusing me of wasting her tour time. I decided not to make a big deal of it, but then I overheard her speaking ill of me to the bus driver. The driver remained respectful and didn't get involved, but I found it very uncomfortable to hear the guide's negative comments, especially since I was sitting in the front seats. Unfortunately for her, I understand Italian. I consider this behavior to be very unprofessional and disrespectful. It's a shame, because the rest of the trip was excellent, but that kind of attitude leaves a bad impression of the company. What kind of guides do they work with? Working with a guide like that, who treated us that way, says a lot about the company. It's a real shame.

Our tour guide, Salvatore was a font of information about all things Italian and Swiss. He was very entertaining and enthusiastic. Our driver, Jon, managed some crazy hairpin turns. The views from the Bernina train were phenomenal.

Worth the excursion. It takes all day, but the scenery is majestic. Excellent guide and driver. Super recommended. The tour is beautiful. Advice, if you are going on this date, bring food as restaurants are closed. Although there is super at the train station you can buy sandwiches and drink.

I think it should be made more clear that most of the shops and attractions along the route don’t fully open until the start of their season, which begins December 1. Because of that, the stop and break felt a bit uneventful and boring. That said, I’m still thankful we went and arrived safely. The scenery along the way was absolutely beautiful — the views really are the highlight of the trip. A note for anyone considering this tour: it’s a very laid-back experience with a lot of sitting time — approximately 9 hours total (3-hour bus ride there, 3-hour train ride, and 3-hour bus ride back). If you’re looking for a relaxed, scenic journey rather than an active or shopping-heavy experience, this might be a good fit for you.

Highlights: The journey offered absolutely breathtaking scenery—both from the train and during the bus ride to St. Moritz. We were lucky to get the front seats on the bus, which made the incredible mountain views even more memorable. It was also impressive watching our skilled driver navigate all those sharp hairpin turns with ease. Downside: Unfortunately, there were several crying and fussy babies on both the bus and the train, which made it hard to fully enjoy the experience. An adults-only tour option would be a great idea.

Took this trip from Milan so it was a very long day but worth it. As it was October most food places closed in St Moritz so take something to eat. Bernina rail route very spectacular. You may not have the actual Bernina Express train with the glass roof but the local was great as the windows open for no reflection photography.

Bernina Red Train was a fantastic way to see the overwhelmingly lovely sights of the Swiss Alps. Enjoyed every minute of the train ride! Everywhere we looked, to the right or to the left, was breathlessly stunning! Would have wanted to spend a few more time at St Moritz, possibly half an hour more, to enjoy the place a little more, before boarding the train.
