Wat Ban Den
Wat Ban Den, formerly known as Wat Ribunrueang, is one of Chiang Mai’s most extraordinary temples and also one of the largest temple complexes in Chiang Mai province. When Wat Ban Den got a new abbot in 1988 the temple was in poor condition. The new abbot received many donations from the local people and Buddhists from across the country. With these donations the temple has been completely renovated and a number of impressive structures were added. Although the structures of the temple are relatively new, they are built in traditional architectural style. You can enjoy details of historic Lanna religious art, a reclining Buddha and seated Buddhas, and pay homage to the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac. You will undoubtedly enjoy the beauty, serenity and piece of this wonderful site. The total duration includes traveling time from Chiang Mai to Wat Ban Den.
The Mae Ngat Dam & Reservoir
The Mae Ngat dam and reservoir is located on the western side of the Si Lanna National Park and offers a tranquil and picturesque escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Mae Ngat dam was built in the 1980s to provide irrigation for agriculture in the surrounding Mae Ngat basin. The peaceful sanctuary has since become hugely popular with Chiang Mai locals and travelers to escape the city and get into northern Thailand’s beautiful nature. The serenely beautiful lake is surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. We will board a boat and enjoy the serenely beautiful lake from the water.

This tour is so much fun and what really makes this tour amazing is because we had the best tour guide of Thailand. Saman is so wonderful, thoughtful, polite and respectful of our time and space. The sticky waterfalls is our favorite thing to do and we wish we had gone to the very bottom of the falls before we walked up. The hike up was very easy and super fun.

Saman was an incredibly enthusiastic and dedicated tour guide. He is very kind, warm, and thoughtful. Throughout the trip, he took wonderful care of my little family and paid attention to every small detail. He always made sure we were comfortable, safe, and enjoying every moment. His kindness and genuine concern meant so much to us. Because of him, our experience felt more personal, relaxed, and memorable. We truly appreciate the care and effort he put into making our trip so special. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Brilliant day. 4 or 5 stops during the course of the day. Our tour Guide Tik was very knowledgeable and went out of his way to help with anything we needed. Highlights of the day was the boat ride on the Dam, Followed by the sticky waterfall.

Amazing day trip - food market, temples, boat trip and sticky waterfall First stop seeing all the fresh food. Next we stopped at the most amazing temples we have seen. Our guide, Tik, was brilliant with his details of the temples and the history behind varied Buddha’s. Next to Srilanna Dam where we took a boat up the river to see the floating hotel and other accommodation. Amazing beauty all around. Finally the Sticky Waterfalls where you walk/climb using ropes. Not for the faint hearted, but we all really enjoyed it (age range 56-64) A fantastic day and worth the money, but mostly it was made so good by Tik.

This was supposed to be a group tour, but we were the only guests, so we effectively had a private one. Our tour guide was very informative and keen on answering our questions. We had fun at the waterfall, visited a local market where we were the only tourists and had a good time at the blue temple and during the boat tour.

Excellent trip out for the day, transport was brilliant in an very clean & tidy mini bus. Saman (our guide) was very friendly & knowledgeable & took time to explain local customs and there way of life, done in a factual hands on personal way. A trip to local market turned out to be surprisingly informative with various ingredients sampled, the visit to the temple complex was relaxed with plenty of time to admire the site, all the time being politely informed of what the culture meant to the local area. Then onto the boat with some scenic views around the reservoir, followed by lunch,(the happy room had a brilliant view), before arriving at the waterfall. Once again Saman was full of information which added to the experience, and many thanks for assisting the other half up the waterfall & giving us both an experience neither of us will forget. Very good day out made memorable & personal by our guide . Thanks again.

My guide, Saman, was incredibly knowledgeable and made the whole experience enjoyable. The boat tour and the Sticky Waterfall were definite highlights, and the temple we visited was the most beautiful I’ve seen so far. I highly recommend this tour!

We had a fantastic day exploring with this tour! Saman was our knowledgeable and engaging guide, while Tam was our friendly and reliable driver. Our first stop was a local market, where Saman introduced us to a variety of exotic fruits and vegetables we hadn’t seen before. Since it was a Sunday, the market was fairly quiet, which made for a more relaxed and intimate experience. Next, we visited the stunning Wat Den Sali Si Mueang Kaen (Wat Ban Den). Saman’s deep understanding of Buddhism really enriched our visit—he explained the temple’s history, architecture, and the meaning behind various rituals and symbols. It gave us a much deeper appreciation of what we were seeing. We then headed to the Mae Ngat Sombun Chon Dam for a peaceful boat ride across the reservoir. We stopped at a floating village, which was interesting to explore. While it’s probably not a place we’d choose to stay overnight, it was certainly a unique experience. After the boat ride, we enjoyed a relaxing lunch overlooking the lake—simple but pleasant, with beautiful views. The highlight of the day was definitely the Buatong “Sticky” Waterfall! It was so much fun climbing up the rocks, which have a naturally grippy surface that makes it surprisingly easy to walk up the waterfall. Tam joined us for the climb and was very helpful and encouraging. You don’t get soaked, but it’s smart to wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting a bit wet. Overall, we had a truly enjoyable day packed with variety, learning, and adventure. Saman and Tam did an excellent job making everything smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour!
